Broken ribs suck.

Thursday I slipped on a wet stair and fell. Landed on my side on the stairs. Thought I just knocked the wind out of myself. After a trip to the doctor and an x-ray it turns out I broke a couple of ribs. They are hairline fractures so there really isn't anything they can do for me other than give me pain killers and wrap it up, which actually doesn't seem to help that much.

It took me most of the day today to find comfortable ways of sitting. So I now can at least sit and watch TV or read a book on the couch or sit at the desk to work for a while without being in agony.

On the good side I did this while carrying the girlfriend's groceries into her house so she feels guilty and has been offer up anything she can to make me feel better :winkwink:

I feel for ya! couple of years ago walked into a wheelie bin in the dark, corner of it caught me in the ribs...thought I been stabbed for a sec! After two days couldnt take it any longer and went to casualty...turned out has severe bruised ribs and can take a month to heal! thats just bruised ribs! thing with ribs they cant put them in a plaster cast like a broken leg or arm! feel your pain mate!

Exactly. :thumbsup

Rest up Kane. Sorry to hear of your pain.

Barefootsies 03-21-2010 12:59 PM

Yes they do.

One of the most painful injuries ever. You hurt to sleep, laugh, cough, move. Just about everything hurts. It is not fun at all, and take some time to mend.

I had a car accident where I broken, and cracked, a bunch of ribs. It was hell.

Good luck.

I have a pretty high pain threshold but I know how you feel

As well as the pain and inconvenience the painkillers I was given gave me really realistic dreams about people I know with just odd events in them rather than the sort of dreams I usually have which are just randomness. I had 4 weeks of being very confused about what was real and what wasn't :Oh crap

fatfoo 03-21-2010 02:20 PM

Broken ribs suck, yes, kane.

Semi-Retired-Dave 03-21-2010 02:36 PM

Been there a few times, Over jumping on my dirt bike, missing my landing by 10 feet.
I know when my ribs go, I usually don't go in to see the Doctor because they can't do anything about it, except make sure you have not punctured a lung and have internal bleeding.

The last time I broke my ribs, I caught a cold. Try sneezing and coughing with broken ribs. Not fun. And I don't take drugs so I didn't even have pain killers in me.

Sorry to hear about it, the more you rest, the faster they heal.

I rarely rest so I dealt with the pain for a while. I just show up to work and my partner sees the way I walk in and says, "You broke your ribs again I see" lol

This morning I got up and when I turned on the heater it made me sneeze. Sent a bolt of pain through me and took my breath away.:warning

C-Luv 03-21-2010 03:23 PM

marcop 03-21-2010 03:53 PM

So painful... I've broken ribs before too. Get well soon.

borked 03-21-2010 04:42 PM

Yup, a ski accident did in my 2nd rib - fracture not a break but fuck that thing hurts. No laughing, and if you have hay fever, being spring and all, god help you because sneezing is like someone whacking you with a crow bar in the ribs :helpme when you feel one coming on, just stand as straight as possible against a wall and try to suppress it best you can

Jakez 03-21-2010 04:46 PM

At least you can do just about anything still. Try breaking an arm/wrist and then try making yourself some food, driving a car, exchanging money with a cashier or taking a shower with one hand. Huge pile of suck.

When I was 9 I broke my left arm. Luckily I am right handed so I could still write and feed myself and wipe my ass and stuff like that. But this was in about 1980 so the cast was heavy and hard plaster. A few times I accidentally hit myself in the head with it and nearly knocked myself out.

I have successfully fought off a few sneezes, but made the horrid mistake of being slouched over for the one that got through. It was not fun. I will take your advice if it happens again.

Danny B 03-21-2010 10:16 PM

been there done that.
I took a huge hit playing rugby some time ago.
Knocked me da fuck out and left me with a couple of broken ribs.

Hurts like a MF, all the time.
my advise: take it easy on the painkillers, they do more harm than good.

Good to know you'll be in good hands with your GF lookin after you.

Adam_M 03-21-2010 10:18 PM

My advice DON"T SNEEZE!

Edit: To late :(

baddog 03-21-2010 11:01 PM

I spent about 2 months in an orthopedic boot when I stubbed my toe a few years back. Was just walking out of one room in the house and into the other and stubbed my toe. Thought nothing of it after the initial pain. Turns out I got what they call Turf Toe. It hurt like hell and I was pretty much unable to walk without the boot until it healed. I still catch hell about getting that dumb injury.

How did you crack the ribs?

Sarah_Jayne 03-22-2010 05:08 AM

That can't be fun! My grandmother did that when I was a kid but I think she is the only person I have actually known break a rib.

Get better soon!

Spunky 03-22-2010 05:49 AM

My friends and I play fantasy football every year and it seems that each year one of us gets a guy who misses time with turf toe. We had always slammed the guys saying that they should just suck it up and play. I no longer do that. I can see how it could end a career. It takes forever to heel and it was one of the worst pains I have ever had in my life.

Scott McD 03-22-2010 12:19 PM

Unlucky.

Always look at the positives though. Enjoy the blowjobs... :winkwink:

When Deion Sanders was criticized for for not being tough enough to play with turf-toe he had a great quote .... "Tell that to Jack Lambert"

Jack Lambert, Steeler great and extreme hard ass retired because of turf toe.
