Is it possible to change tracking codes based on referring URL?
Say I have a website built with several sponsors listed on it and I want to buy traffic to send to this page. Obviously I want to know how each traffic source performs with my sponsor links. What is the best way to do this? Do I have to copy and republish the page to a subdomain for each traffic source? Can I write code to automatically change the campaign code based on referring URL? Something else I'm not thinking of?
Thanks!! |
Depending on which tracking systems do your sponsors use that's quite easy to do.
You would need your script to check the referrer url and the add the extra variable that your sponsor codes accept. i.e. NATS campaign id. Some other tracking codes allow to add arbitrary values to some variable that you can use to track add spot, or any other information. |
Some sponsors have detailed stats which tells you the referring URLS and the URL that the sale resulted from. Good luck. I suggest to talk to your sponsor's support about this thing, NikKay.
