I need to populate a column with the same exact string. How do I do this?

Durr... let me think. I've been using OO for a few years now, but that's a new one. You sure you don't want to populate the row-approrpriate stuff?

put a string into a cell
select what cells you want the same string
edit -> fill -> fill series

Oh nice. I found another solution but your way actually works much better for me.
