2 Lakeland stores busted for selling porn

LAKELAND, FL -- Undercover detectives caught two Lakeland convenience stores selling explicit pornography videos, in open view, and arrested three store owners in the bust, the Polk Sheriff's Office said Friday.

A fourth man, who detectives say was supplying the videos to the stores, was also arrested.

Last month undercover vice detectives, visited several stores in Lakeland. According to investigators, they found both Skyview Foods, located at 2939 Skyview Drive, and the Sunoco Gas Station at 2225 S. Combee Road, selling XXX DVD videos. Detectives said they the videos were located near the checkout corner of both stores, in full view of any customer.

Detectives bought videos from each store. The videos contained hardcore adult images, which a judge later ruled violated Florida's obscenity laws.

Tuesday detectives seized 272 items from both stores. It's illegaal to sell obscene material in Polk County, something the store owners found out the hard way.

"The deal that I want to tell the smut peddlers, is take your stuff and get out," said Sheriff Grady Judd, "If you don't, we're gonna put you in jail. How do you like that?"

Imagine getting caught shooting porn in Polk County by Sheriff Judd... Interestingly Polk County sits between porn friendly Tampa and Disney owned Orlando...

I shot girl flashing at Disney's Pleasure Island a long time ago in full view of security with no problems at all. I even have pictures of the security guards posing with the girl.

Too bad Florida's turned so bad. They used to be cool.

I'll see if I can find those pictures and will post them here.

Aaron, 68 rounds sounds bad but lets assume a couple of things ...

* K-9 officer dead.
* K-9's human partner dead.
* Officer wounded.
* Swat team of what, 12 officers?
* Each swat member has an assault rifle for primary weapon.
* These guys are pumped/scared more than they will ever be in their entire lives.
* If half of the team concentrated fire on this guy 68 rounds is nothing.
* With 3 officers already down why risk a fourth taking him alive. Neutralize the threat.

I could easily see a jury acquitting you for dumping a half or a full clip into someone under a panic situation like you refer to.

undercover meaning they didn't walk in with their cop uniform on and try to buy it. They walked in with plain clothes on.

Rochard 04-03-2010 10:40 PM

The funny thing is they had to pass a dozen crack houses to get to those three locations to buy porn.

will76 04-03-2010 10:51 PM

The police chief might be a prude, religious stick in the mud, but what about the community ? 100% of the people on the jury will need to find the material to be very offensive for him to be convicted. If it was basic shit on the tape, they only need 1 normal person to be on the jury and he wont be convicted. The police chief doesn't want "smut" in his county, but the people in his country watch it on their computers and on ppv, even HBO, Cinemax, Showtime showing pretty graphic stuff now.

If it is hardcore bdsm, bukakka, fisting, peeing, etc... they might need to sweat a little depending on the jury pool.

I just can't believe people still buy porn on DVD from a local store.

will76 04-03-2010 10:56 PM

He looks like the type. Religious, anti porn, anti fun type that prolly watches gay porn at home.

No matter how you look at it, they lost control. Cops are NEVER supposed to lose control.

In some states they are taught at the acadamy to fire until the target is down...some military teams are trained to do the same...thus if several cops...that may have been trained to fire until the target is down...were firing at the same target the target could be hit with many rounds before the target hit the ground...and even more so if full automatic weapons were being used.

This isn't a Police Academy movie with Tackleberry.

And trust me when I tell you this....YOU have no place telling me anything about firearms or tactical training.

I know that you own a few guns...but unless I am mistaken you have never been trained at a police academy or served in the military. I also doubt that you have ever shot at a human target. I served in the military for 12 years in the Airborne Infantry and engaged in Grenada...Panama...and the first Gulf War...and have used my weapon against human targets. So no...I will not trust you...thank you very much.

Just to add to what L-Pink has already stated, there was a 10 person SWAT team hunting in the woods for this guy (the same woods where he had already "executed" another cop. I emphasize "executed" because after shooting and immobilizing the cop, he stood over him and put two more bullets into his head...)

Anyway, so you have a 10 person SWAT team, going through the woods, hunting this guy - and he comes up from under a fallen oak tree and some brush with a gun in his hand - nine of the SWAT members spot him and the a gun and they open fire on him.

Polk County SWAT members carry MP5s. From what I've read in this thread, you yourself apparently are a gun owner and versed in guns, so I'm assuming you are already familiar w/ an MP5 and it's rate of fire. But, for the sake of those reading that are not, it's 800 rounds per minute.

So simple math: 68 rounds hit this guy. 9 SWAT members fired - that's roughly 8 hits per SWAT member (not realistic that you could avg hits out like that - and that each would hit 8 times, but just for math's sake). They're firing a weapon that shoots 800 rounds / minute - that's 13 bullets a SECOND - basically a quick pull of the trigger.

That would mean that each SWAT member pulled the trigger for LESS THAN HALF A SECOND - when they saw this guy coming up from the brush with a gun in his hand.

HOPEFULLY now knowing that they were carrying MP5s you can get a better idea of what what was going on and agree that "68 shots" from 9 SWAT members does not indicate a loss of control in any manner.

:thumbsup

110 shots fired with 68 hits = 38% missed shots.

That being said....I've been around a number of tactical teams and competition shoots and missing your target 38% of the time will earn you a casket or last place. These people train for these kind of stressful situations.

I don't care if they were carrying mini-guns, 68 rounds is excessive ESPECIALLY for those with tactical training.

Was my mistake that indeed you have been trained at a police academy...or was my mistake that you have in fact served in the military...or was it that you have shot at a human target. Feel free to correct my mistake/assumptions.
