IE9 will make a lot of users abandon IE

IE9 will not work on windows XP as a system requirement declared by microsoft:
http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/in...s/Default.html

will you switch your XP and buy Windows 7, or (god forbid) buy Vista just to use IE9 ?
a lot of XP users will stop using their IE7 or IE8 because of security issues that come with an old browser ... and try google chrome or firefox.

as for me: ask me after I switch from XP i'm using now to Windows 7 which will be more than a year from now

Klen 04-11-2010 01:57 AM

There is now way how i will switch to 7 just because of stupid piece of software like ie.

Jensen 04-11-2010 01:59 AM

if they are worried about security issues they would make the switch today. Most people are stupid and lazy so don't count on it!

ErectMedia 04-11-2010 01:59 AM

IE blows ass. Really no reason to use it period. Only time I fire it up is to check a new website to make sure everything is compatible across different browsers. Chrome & Firefox for life. :thumbsup

HomeFry 04-11-2010 02:16 AM

Already using Win7. No big deal.

USS Clownpenis 04-11-2010 02:33 AM

i'm really digging the IE10 so far

Abracadabra_nl 04-11-2010 04:14 AM

IE7 IE8.. IE9.... Doesn't matter. I've got a Mac :) :thumbsup

What does matter however is that IE8 doesn't support HTML 5, whereas IE9 will.

The fact that it won't be possible to install IE9 on a computer which still runs XP, is not good news for those who hope that HTML 5 will soon replace Flash. And I am one of them :)

ottopottomouse 04-11-2010 04:27 AM

I normally use Firefox. IE and others only to check page layouts don't become a weird mess in other browsers. Not exactly going to upgrade to windows 7 just to be able to use a browser I don't use all the time and there is bound to be a browser compatibility website I could use to check sites instead.

skywalkeer 04-11-2010 04:48 AM

interesting ....

seeandsee 04-11-2010 04:57 AM

A lot of people are switching to other browsers anyways. This will have practically zero effect. I don't think you can even buy Vista anymore. And why would you? People that keep XP are the same people that kept IE 6 or IE 7 until they are forced to change anyways. The number of XP users is dropping the number of Win 7 users is growing. In fact I expect Windows 7 user to pass XP users by mid 2011.

Great, IE 9 won't be out until then anways.

If you don't get why IE 9 won't work with XP well.........

You know XP is a decade old. By the way Apple doesn't even support software that long. If you own a 10 year old Mac can you use the latest Safari or Quicktime or Itunes on it? Nope.

A) No one is forcing you to switch.

B) you don't know if IE 9 is stupid or not. biased much?

eventually you'll get a new computer and it will come with Windows 7. No problems. No forced switching.

HTML5 won't soon be replacing anything anytime soon. You should read up on it before getting your hopes up.

That assumes you buy a prepackaged one. :) I've run this XP license on about 3 incarnations of hardware now.

Well MOST people will buy a new one. Sure I could build my own, but hell when I got a new one for $400 I got a computer good enough for my needs from wally world that came with Windows 7 so what the hell.

Everything's realative in life, and so is is "soon". I am very much aware that it will take a few more years before HTML5 is the standard. :winkwink:

s/a few more/10/g

There, I fixed that for you.

jigg 04-11-2010 09:14 AM

IE8's fine
IE9 who knows.

IE 64-bit is stellar on my Windows 7, it is so noticeably faster! Except those fuckers are Adobe who rather make 64bit flash players for Linux, but won't for windows due to lack of demand!

HandballJim 04-11-2010 07:12 PM

IE 9?? I am still on IE 6.

I need to download service pack 2 then update the browser I think...cause currently it states my system cannot upgrade. Started using firefox more lately since yahoo email does not work right anymore on IE 6.

You are crazy to still be on IE6.

NaughtyRob 04-11-2010 09:55 PM

Viruses made me abandon IE like way back in version 5 or something.

Chosen 04-12-2010 01:11 AM

IE sucks big time and always did...

$5 submissions 04-12-2010 05:19 AM

No XP support? Weasely way to get people to upgrade? Fuck MS. Yet another reason to move to Chrome.

Exoclick 04-12-2010 06:37 AM

Why would you need IE anyway? Firefox is so much better...

BestXXXPorn 04-12-2010 06:41 AM

Just use Chrome.... chrome now supports more than twice the standards IE9 will when it comes out...

Serial Pervert 04-12-2010 07:01 AM

IE sux, i don't know how someone uses this shit.

I just dont like IE generaly, and i doubt any future version will change that.Nobody ever will be able to compete with firefox and its extensions.

czarina 04-12-2010 07:08 AM

I have Windows 7 in my new mini and I don't think it's anything special.
