Journalists seem to think that having TV or PRESS on their coat makes them invincible and quite often put themselves in a really stupid position that no sane person would even consider.

Also, when I was watching about it on the television last night all the signs and shop names and everything were in Thai so having PRESS written on them counts for nothing if nobody can understand what it says.

ya every government has been warning against travel to Thailand for at least a year.

i was just down where this is taking place at the beginning of the week. its a pretty isolated area. the media is making it out to be a country-wide battle but its only about 4-6 square blocks or so.

just avoid that area and there's no risk of gunfire. i had to go to the US embassy so there was no choice. of course now most embassies are closed until the "war" is over.

Crazy shit indeed. I was supposed hit the embassy this week as well to get pages added into my passport but it looks like thats not going to happen within the next few days. Hopefully they open it soon. One benifit this chaos gives us is an extra slow, slow season.

the bkk battle hasn't changed my life, even tho i am only a few hours away, but its definitely changed the lives of the 30 or so people killed. anyone with family or a business in that area is relying on those journalists to tell them what is going on.

many people from my town have family or friends down in that battle since this is a red-shirt area. im sure these families appreciate the sacrifice of the journalists.

driving is joke ? same as above...+ Thais don't drive that bad :)... I rode over there around 8 000 km and never had accident....+ no road rage like in europe...

beggers ? i never acrossed one, and i don't look soooo poor....there are some guys who try to rip you off due to your white skin...but ...9/10 Thais i have dealt with were honest...

the place pisses me off sometimes but its a good healthy living in the northeast. the guys complaining about crime and getting ripped off never spent time up in the countryside. i get cut off by motorbikes and cows daily, hit a huge dog that wrecked my front-end last year, but its no big deal. at least no one fucks with me in my huge 8-bedroom house or while im out shopping.

much better and cheaper than living in the west.

I'd never seen a dead body that wasn't a relative at a funeral before Thailand. In the same week I seen a twisted motorbike driver and a pickup truck in flames outside Don Muang airport. Look at reports during Songkran, a lot of Thais (and foreigners) think it's ok to drive drunk and during this holiday week the accident rate jumps to the thousands with tens sometimes hundreds dead.

If you haven't seen a beggar in Bangkok you've never been or you've been chauffeured everywhere.
