Ah, the boneheads really did it this time. They are all gung-ho about boycotting AZ and its companies but they forgot one HUGE thing. 25% of LA's electricity comes form AZ. Guess what? AZ is thinking about turning it off!!

Interesting, California has the same law that they are boycotting Arizona for:

Section 834b in the California Penal Code:

(a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws. (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following: (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status. (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States. (3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity. (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited.

Why 05-19-2010 04:10 PM

it was a stupid move on behalf of LA to begin with.... stay out of other peoples politics. if the people of arizona dont like it, they can leave.

course then Cali would have twice as many illegals in it! :(

Problem is, is that LA called for an all out boycott of Arizona, to hurt our economy to appease the number of legal and illegal Mexican voters they have in that state and maybe, just maybe that they don’t want our illegal’s to run to their sanctuary state because they are already in finical distress and probably couldn’t handle it…just a thought.
Did Cali think they were going to bully us and not get any reaction? I think they have done damage with their campaign and repercussions have to come for their actions.

If it includes the CAP, then so be it ;)

It was just reported that Arizona does not have the legal ability to shut off the power as the plants supplying the power are not owned by Arizona but are owned by California.

Would you happen to have a link to this story?
What plants are they referring to?

I don't think they own any of these plants
The electricity comes from coal-fired power plants in northern Arizona, a nuclear power plant outside Phoenix, and two hydroelectric plants on the Colorado River.

No link...I just saw it on a news show a few minutes ago...and they said that Arizona did not have the legal authority to shut off any flow of electricity to California as the power plants supplying the electricity to California are owned by California. I am just reporting what I heard on the news.

baddog 05-19-2010 05:36 PM

I suspect there are contracts in place that prevent stupid people from trying to do stupid things.

theking 05-19-2010 05:53 PM

I don't care to spend much time researching the subject but a quick search revealed this...The Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, commonly referred to as Palo Verde Power Plant, is a nuclear power plant located in Wintersburg, Arizona 29% of the power plant is owned by Arizona over 25% is owned by California electric companies with approximately 5% of the 25% being owned by L.A. With the remaining % owned by several other companies from different states. I do not want to spend time researching the coal powered plants.

Ok, no problem. I was curious if the person who you had heard it from possibly read it somewhere.

NetHorse 05-19-2010 05:57 PM

ha ha.....Good, I hope they do whatever they can to standby their law.

They should just fuck with them and shut it off for 10 minutes. The inconvenience problems that would cause would be worth 100000x more the 10 mins loss of revenue. :winkwink:

But I doubt that the lawsuit that followed...since Califonria owns almost as large a percentage of the Nuclear Power Plant as Arizona does...would be worth the 10 minutes of inconvenience that it caused California/L.A.

That didn't stop the LA City Council. If they want to boycott AZ they should not pick and choose what they do want to take from AZ and should boycott it all!

fatfoo 05-19-2010 06:29 PM

That is unfortunate. Good luck to them with their boycotting problems!

They made need to reduce output at all the plants for routine maintenance and just have enough power for AZ. :winkwink:

The Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station is located west of Phoenix. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power owns 5 percent of the plant and 21 percent of a coal-fired plant on Navajo land to the north. They are right in saying Arizona, as a state, cannot shut off the power to LA, but the state can urge the power companies in Arizona to do so.

LOL! LA could dump a turbine in the water at any beach and kill Arizona.

And they would have the money to do it as soon as the boycott started since they wouldn't pay Arizona anymore.

You realize CA is more than just the City of LA, right? Let me know when you have something other than what you may have heard. I have not been able to read anything that supports your contention. :2 cents:
