I miss the old days of webmaster resources...
One's where everyone worked together, collaborated.... Seems today is more every man for himself...
I guess its just me... |
what "old days" were those? It's always been every man for himself.
on a side note, I get a chuckle out of "old days" of webmastering... I have clothing that's older than webmastering. :) |
Dog eat dog world ..always has been.no morals .anything for a buck and just greed

And yes it has always been every man for himself... But back in the day... people actually worked together.... I am talking back like late 90s.. early 2000s |
very good:)

When i started 6 yrs ago there was bunch of people that would help you with anything, now next to none
|
Todays game is not about cooperating and helping eachother make more money, its about making sure your "competition" doesnt make more then you.
The more you trash other people, the better you will look. The more you lie about them, the better your chance it to get that last affiliate to your program. Just troll, trash, lie, shove and push. You dont need prove, just bullshit and lie your way all to the top. Sad but true, THAT is what gfy is all about the last months. Its getting worse, and nobody gives a fuck. (Yah, and NO this isnt MY way of working, but apparantly a lot of people here think its THE way to play "im a pimp webmaster".) |

well it lost lots of its friendliness. It's a shame really.

Old days friendly? lol Sure they were. :)

People get squirrely when their paper doesn't stack right...
|
Could be the preservation instinct; these are harsh times...

It was all about reciprocal links, and it was indeed a very nice time to start. Who doesn't remember CE's Ron L, Jim, Shemp, YNot, GoodBadUgly times ? :1orglaugh The only thing that sucked in my 1995 - 2000 period was colocationprices... but hey... conversion was like 1:200 average, if not better... Those were the days, Headless, these days are not worse or less, just different Different times, different opportunities... different approach... :winkwink: |
the resession has changed things for sure

Who can spot the live example in this thread?
|
When you're making 21 cents a click everyone is in a good mood and there is less worry about making numbers. It's real business now. Less people have good advice to give in the new climate... dog eats dog...
|
To many surfers and anonymous trolls running around isnt helping either btw.
|
it was, it was...

The only constant is change. |
Its the same as living in the city or a small village. People in the village know each other, are helpful and welcome. In the city you barely know your guy next door. Same with this business. Back in 2000 it was about a few big players and a few guys who were just starting up. There were like 3-4 designers at that time.
|
I know what you mean. When I first came on the scene at PCBBS it was all about helping each other because everybody was finding their way and figuring out how this stuff worked.
|
I think many years ago webmastering was more exciting, because the Internet was a recent invention. Now it is getting more boring. The feeling of looking at a computer game for the first time in your life or any new invention is exciting.
|
I gotta say that is one lame nostalghia...
|
it was way easier to make money, now it is more like a real business industry.
... and still not as cut-throat as some. |
