We celebrated gook style last weekend at my house for my daughter's birthday.
It was pretty cool.

Some of you may or not know, these are Chinese Lions. Typically seen during Chinese New Years celebrations and in movies.

It was fucking cool to have them at the house and tossing illegal fireworks at them.

boneprone 06-09-2010 03:05 PM

We even added some Mexican Beaner flavor to our gook party. A Pinata!

fatfoo 06-09-2010 03:10 PM

I just looked up the definition of the word gook.

According to wikipedia.org:

Gook /guk/ is a derogatory term for Asians, which came to prominence in the context of warfare to refer to enemy soldiers. Its use as an ethnic slur has been traced to U.S. Marines serving in the Philippines in the early 20th century. The earliest recorded use is dated 1920. Prior to the Vietnam War (1964–1975), "gook" was U.S. soldiers' jargon used to refer to any non-American.

My grandfather taught me the word..
He was a Yellow Jap Killer in WWII.

_Richard_ 06-09-2010 03:16 PM

happy birthday and congrats!

boneprone 06-09-2010 03:16 PM

My granfather asked if he could try the drums.. The drumming part is a very important part of the show giving the lions a beat to move to in order to tell the story. My 90 year old grandfather grabed the sticks and did the drum. It was pretty fucking awesome.

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1517590_n.jpg

He said he handnt done this in 75 years since he lived in China (gook motherland). Where as a good child he was the village drummer (some honorable job a gook kid had back then) and he picked it up and did it as if he never missed the beat. It was pretty impressive.

CYF 06-09-2010 03:17 PM
