EU about to share all banking data details of consumers and businesses with US government

Terrible translation, but still...

http://translate.google.com/translat...-bankdata.html

"Terrorism" seems to be able to get insight on all money flows on bank wires, next to the anounced "anonymous creditcard/debitcard" hunt. Just so you all know in advance there are "taxes" coming thru most governments (acta & tax treaties) deals worldwide.

Off to sleep now. 1AM here now.

notime 07-08-2010 05:17 AM

It's official today and effective as per August 1st 2010:
http://translate.google.com/translat...ml&sl=nl&tl=en

The US government can now ask for any private persons or companies' bank records and all wire info, from and to who and what amounts.

It is supposedly against terrorism only but it would not be a surprise if the US would leak the same data to their own IRS. Who knows.

And the European parliament pretended (that's all they actually do... pretend to protect us) to fight the 'bill'.... The new version of the agreement is actually worse than the original one....

Ethersync 07-08-2010 05:25 AM

Total bullshit.

What is the process by which the US government gets the information? Is there some intermediary that decides which requests to honor or can the Feds go straight to the banks with requests? What protection is there against industrial espionage? Is there a reciprocal agreement? Is a judge or warrant required at all?

MaDalton 07-08-2010 05:28 AM

it's all for our safety...

European inspectors oversee that the info is not used for espionage.
The rest I don't have answers to, the news report does not mention details.

So what? If there were no EU you would have to do the same thing for each separate country instead.

Same goes for you. If there were no EU you would have to do it even in more complicated way (apply for each individual country)

There's more to life than traveling...

The EU tries to regulate every aspect of our lives.
Because of the EU and the eurozone the shady financial situation of one country affect people in the whole of Europe.
...
.....
.......

i like the EU, i like the fact that i can move around like i want, i like that i can pay mostly everywhere with the same money.

i moved to another country and i had no one to ask and no one cared. there's no border controls, no passport checks - just like one big country.

all of you that complain are probably too young to remember how this all was before 1989, but i do. and i really don't want that back.

but yes, many regulations in the EU are stupid, shit happens. but stupid regulations have also existed before and will still exist in the future.

and: thanks to the EU we have the longest period of peace in central Europe ever. and i can hardly imagine that there will be ever again a war between any countries in the EU

That excuse will open up pandora's box for anonymous debit/creditcards for sure.
With a possible cc to the IRS's worldwide...

I pay my all my taxes. But the sneaking up from behind people's back I just don't like from governments.

Not everything is negative, I do agree :thumbsup

I just don't want to end up in a semi-democracy, whereas it's some form of new media controlled way of make believe thru all media, where democracy is a controlled way of media influenced communism to tax you to death and beyond.

It was pretty easy to be in Schengen a few months and then out of Schengen a few months and never have to worry about residency anywhere. Now that almost all of Europe, including Swizterland and Norway, are Schengen it's a huge headache. The UK gives 6 months. We should get the same in Schengen :2 cents:
