Google results are all doubleclick.net links.. that don't work? WTH?

Anyone else see this?

Searched for Cartoonize Yourself in Google and I got some really weird results..

Click any of the links on there and it appears to sneakily go through a doubleclick.net link, but it doesn't even work..

Edit: ok the links actually work now.. but it's still weird, does Google own doubleclick?

The Heron 06-26-2010 01:56 PM

You've got a virus/trojan/something

Try Search and Destroy and also run Microsoft's Security Essentials

Could someone please view the link I provided in the OP and tell me if the Google results you see are doubleclick URL's? Don't forget you have to hold the left mouse click down on the link to see the actual URL and not just hover over it.

It doesn't appear to have any affiliate ID or something in it.. so what would be the point of infecting people just to send them through googleads/doubeclick? And I know Google wouldn't infect people.. so I don't really don't understand what is going on lol.

Also, something I just noticed is that this is only happening in Firefox (I'm using 3.5.9)..

Edit: oh I'm stupid, it's sgdoubleclick.net not doubleclick.net.. so I am infected. I guess I'll keep scanning.

Ok after a long ordeal with this crap, I've found that this is actually NOT an infection, spyware, browser hijack or anything, it's actually a "legit" ad-serving and search cookie by doubleclick.com which is owned by Google.

I'm not sure how this was put into place in my browser and I'm now wondering how many surfers have this because with this crap enabled the search engine referring URL is not google but instead doubleclick.net/.com and my site was not counting this traffic as coming from a search engine. Motherfucker...

Here is an opt-out link I found to get rid of this shit:
http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/dart_adserving.aspx

Edit: my yahoo listings are also using this doubleclick shit too! What a horrible fucking idea this is, how are we supposed to monetize search engine traffic if people are being sent through this shit?!

More opt-out's:

This is fucking ridiculous..

My search listings are going directly through DOUBLECLICK.NET and googleads.g.doubleclick.net which is owned by Google. You will have to "opt-out" of all this bullshit from 10's of advertisers:
http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp

Even after opting out these fucking cookies are reinstalling themselves and it's almost impossible to get rid of AFAIK, I've even installed the damn Google plugin from Google themselves to permanently stop the cookies from reinstalling and apparently it isn't working.
