I love the United States. I love everything about the place.

• Huge variations in the people, places and ways of life.
• The people in LA are massively different than the people in NY.
• Cowboys.
• City slickers.
• Food varies massively between locations.
• I've never encountered an unfriendly American.
• I've encountered plenty of unfriendly people from elsewhere.
• People (especially in the South) are polite and courteous. I don't care if it's fake, it's the thought that counts.
• Technology. They're always working on new and interesting shit.
• Space. As a huge, giant space nerd, the Americans are really, really good at space, the universe, and stuffs.
• Sports. Americans love their sports. I can respect this, even if I hate most sports.
• They always become intrigued and excited when they find out that I'm Canadian.

I bolded the last one, because it always stands out to me. Regardless of where I am, when I'm in the United States and someone finds out that I'm Canadian, they always seem happy to talk. What I usually hear is, "Oh I'd love to visit canada one day!". Not only does this make my inner Canadian happy, it makes me happy that we are seen in a good light. I only wish that more Canadians felt the same way I do about the United States.

I also love the United States because I am fit, healthy, and have a pretty good looking body. My face may look like it was run over by a dump truck, but at least I have abs. When I was in North Carolina, on the beach, I felt like the biggest badass on the planet. In every direction was a fat man or a fat woman. Unlike other places, I could argue that I was the hottest piece of ass on that beach that day.

I especially love Arid deserts like Las Vegas. Warm weather all the time? Cool visuals? Fun and partying? That's like 4 cool things in 1. The only thing I couldn't get used to is the giant spiders. They don't really bother me, they're just too big.

edit: I should clarify, my "I don't care if it's fake, it's the thought that counts." is a prime example of how stereotypes can effect someone who is fond of something or someone. I've never felt anything other than welcome when in a Southern state, yet the whole "southerners are stupid and violent rednecks hurr" snuck in before I even realized it. I'm not going to edit my original post, as I think it proves a good point. Everyone was friendly, so it was clearly genuine. In the future, I will try harder to avoid stereotyping, or being swayed by stereotypical views.

Never had any problems with my American brothers.... I've been lucky to visit about 10 times, plus dated a nice American girl in my younger days. Have always found them to be cool and friendly. I think the world has a bad opinion of the US for political reasons. Why you would judge the population of a whole country based on their polititions I will never understand.

We have everything here, big cities, open ranges, mountains, snow year round, high deserts and low ones, oceans, sand dunes, record sized trees, agriculture( I think we have enough rice for Japan grown here) Porn Valley, Hollywood, medical Marijuana, the list goes on

BTW, I didn't like California. The most impressive place I was in the USA is the old French town of New Orleans.

Hawaii is the crown jewel of the US. Even though it's the 50th state, in practice living there is much like living in a different country. They get all the benefit of still being in the US, but also enjoy being 2500 miles from the mainland.

Unfortunately I never been to Hawaii. Perhaps some day...

it's funny, but when i was in upstate new york doing the small town bar scene, a bunch of these guys smoking found out i was canadian, and they non-aggressively surrounded me asking zillions of questions.

That's interesting... around 15 years ago I guess, I got stuck for the night in some podunk town up around the Georgian Bay. So I went to this little bar that was close by. As soon as those guys in there found out I was American, they did the same thing.... surrounded me and started asking a million questions.... buying me beers all night.... they were a great crowd. Had a blast.

Yeah I have to say that California (LA+ a bit) and Miami were both slums, some of the most awful cities i have ever experienced and I have been to many of the Asian cesspools ... but LA and Miami were just the most horrible places to be. Will never go back to those fucked up cities.. and probably not those states either.

Though most of Colorado as a whole, and New York were major experiences. Really enjoyed Texas and New Mexico too! Never been to New Orleans but its on my hitlist :)
