This should be fun (pic)

Decided to plan out my route to Sturgis and back this year. I wanted to take a route I had not done yet, and think I came up with the perfect route.

I have a feeling the ride home will include a couple additional detours, but those can not really be planned out.

CunningStunt 08-05-2010 11:22 PM

Ride safe. How long is that going to take?

Google maps says it is 50 hours of riding . . . I will take a couple days to get there, spend three there then take three or four to get home . . . depending on detours and weather.

How can a mechanical device be stupid? It wasn't built with AI.

not a bad looking ride - stay upright

jerryb 08-06-2010 01:43 AM

I really envy you baddog ... My best friend and I were planning on biking all over the U.S. and Canada in the 50's. On July 2nd 1954 we were looking at bikes at a local bike shop. On July 3rd Aubrey (my friend) stopped to help an old woman change a flat tire. He was that kind of guy. A drunk came down the road, lost control of his car, and hit and killed Aubrey on the spot. A very sad day for me and we never got to live our dream. :(

John-ACWM 08-06-2010 02:13 AM

Beautiful, waiting for the pics!

Serial Pervert 08-06-2010 06:00 AM

a plain would be really easier, i'm not into adventure, driving, feeling the wind on my face hearing really loud music and smoking cigarettes...

alias 08-06-2010 06:13 AM

Ride hard.

That is a downer story to read first thing in the morning. Did you not take the ride for the two of you?

If I see her again, I will. Can you see if she is the one washing bikes, because if she is, I'll be there for sure.

Yeah, the main reason I am taking that route is because I found a really nice micro-brewery in Cortez. But there are definitely a lot of other detours around there.

Well, the ride home after I leave Flagstaff is probably going to be a little brutal. I will time that portion for the night as there is nothing to see on that portion of I-40 anyway.

As his friend died before my first birthday, perhaps you are smarter than you first let on.

Sosa 08-07-2010 06:08 AM

Will be about 1.5 hours away from me when you are in WY and a few when you are up in Sturgis / Deadwood etc. Have a good trip!

I would ask if you want to meet for lunch when I pass through, but I suspect you will be neck deep in diapers by then.

Well, weather.com shows it being cooler than last time I went, but I already dehydrated myself once this year, so I am definitely packing water with me.

gmr324 08-07-2010 11:50 AM

Have a safe memorable trip! Very smart timing a lot of the trip at night to beat the heat.

Nope ... took it real hard at that age. Took me 2-3 years to get over losing my best buddy. Then got hooked up playing trumpet in Big Bands and traveled U.S, Canada and Europe for several years. Still visit his grave every year to say HI and that someday we'll meet again. :(

amateurbfs 08-07-2010 02:53 PM

The Durango, CO area is beautiful, I have been through there a couple times. If you never have, you will have a blast on the bike.

Oh well, can't undo the past. But hey, if he had not died you may not have been able to do all the cool things you ended up doing, right?

Was just in the area last May. I have ridden my bike through there back in the 90's. It is very nice. My helmet cam is going to get a real workout. :)
