Bill Maher's evaluation of Obama

"After Bush, if you leave the room and it's not on fire, you're going to look really good. It's sort of like a woman who was once married to an alligator with AIDS: All her second husband has to do is not eat her and not give her AIDS and he's gonna be a better husband."

That liberal douchebag is totally objective. Oh wait.

On Ann Coulter...

Is there a political adversary who impresses you, even if you don't agree with their ideology?

"Ann Coulter. Everyone says, "How can you be friends with her?" I find a lot of what she believes in abhorrent, but she's extremely intelligent and can argue a great case for even the most ridiculous ideas."

Is he saying that Obama really has fucked up? Because his approval rating sucks.

Just a bit below 50% sucks? It's damn near twice as high as Bush's, just a hair lower than Clinton was when he got out of office, and Clinton was lower than Obama's is now within his first two years and right now it's about equal with Bush Sr and Reagan got lower and averaged a bit lower than Obama is. Overall, he's doing pretty good. Clinton and Bush both go reelected with about the same approval ratings.

Just to clear the air... Other than Eisenhower the last 11 Presidents have had lower approval ratings that Obama has right now, so he has a lot to go.

You are cherry picking low approval ratings of presidents who served one or more terms in office.

USA Today

Quote:

President Obama's approval ratings are hitting new lows in the Gallup poll.

His average approval rating last week was 44%, the worst week of his presidency.

And his daily tracking number -- the average for three days rolling -- has been 42% the past two days, also low points.
Bush was not this low until the end of his first term and then it was not lower until a year into his second term.

Obama's approval rating has crashed. At the beginning of his term only 20% disapproved of his job performance and now over 50% disapprove. Bush's disapproval rating did not reach this level until 8/8/2005.

For the record, I never liked Bush.

Obama will go down as a 1 termer that makes Carter look like a great President. :2 cents:

Bill Maher on the Oreilly factor, always fun to watch

As far as Barry's poll numbers, yes presidents have had worse, but none reached that level so fast
BUT, if he is smart and after the nov elections go the way people think they will, then he will work with congress and actually start to fix things

of course maher is a liberal and always has a liberal agenda/opinion, but what i like about him is that he gets people to think and hopefully talk..

back when newspapers/radio was the only media outlet, people used to talk about their ideas..

now the public just regurgatates what is feed to them with no intelligent debate..

thats a big problem with the world these days..

when did people put others opinions over speaking their mind?

the world would be such a better place if people began sharing how they really feel about things instead of worrying about what others think... :2 cents:

bwaaa haarr haaaarrrr.
So you think the party of no will actually want to say maybe and do some compromising. Say keeping tax cuts for the uber wealthy and paying for them by privatizing social security, cutting off unemployment payments, eleminating the Department of Education, (we really don't need our kids to be able to read anyway as all the jobs are offshore) just to name a few.

tax cuts would probably help the economy, people paying more taxes, how does that help anyone but the government?

Privatizing Social security might keep the politicians from taking money from it all the time, I checked snopes, both parties have been a bad influence on social security
So I don't give much weight to what Barry is saying

Maybe if there any jobs, we wouldn't need to extend unemployment benefits?

wrong...

we need tax increases to dissolve the national debt..

however, the tax increases need to go to retiring the debt, not growing govt...

if the govt got everyone to pitch in and tighten the belts for the next 5 years, we would be a great country again..

but then again, if the govt did that.. no one would get re elected.... :2 cents:

We need massive government cuts at the federal and state level or the debt will only continue to grow regardless of if we raise taxes or not.

Get real. Tax increases will be used to prevent government cuts.

That line more or less got Cameron elected in the UK and he is actually pushing through huge government cuts. Exactly what needs to happen in the US.

Do you propose we raise corp or personal tax or both?

How much of a raise is necessary to "dissolve the national debt"? What do the new tax rates need to be exactly?

I'm not sure if you people realize this but tax increases will barely move the deficit down.

alessergod 08-16-2010 08:09 PM

The top two percent have seen their net worth grow dramatically since the Bush tax cuts. But with war taking half of the budget even the Grand Ol Party new they couldn't sustain them forever so they set a date for them to expire. The idea that lower taxes lead to more jobs is hogwash. The ecomony was in a tailspin the last one and a half years or so of Bush's last term with job losses growing monthly. 750K jobs lost in Jan of 09.

The Rethoric the Grand Ol Party and TeaBaggers are spewing will not solve anything even if they were serious about doing what they espouse. For example take Angle's stance on copying Chile's privitization of their Retirement program. They are in a world of crap with all the loses their privitization plan lost them. The short term cost looks good but no one seems to look at the long term. We need to look back to the Iriqouis Confederation. Only the women voted and they gaged every decision and vote on what it would do for their society in the next seven generations.

I don't see any cooperation coming from the Grand Ol Party after the elections as many are taking vows not to work with the Democrats, ie, MCCain's latest immigration stance.

that is more bullshit spread by the republicans...

you have to tax everyone, the rich, middle class, and poor...

the tax rate the middle class pays is very low...

increasing it by a few percent would raise huge revenue, but govt spending needs to be cut to extreme measures and thats what the govt doesnt want... :2 cents:

it has to raise by a few points at least and the tax rate needs to be raised across the board..

everyone needs to feel it..

why do you think govt is so against this?

because they would all lose their jobs (govt)...

its about time that govt does what the people need, not what will keep them (govt) in office... :2 cents:

Recent Presidents isn't really cherry picking.

Anyway, a high of 65% to 42% low, is crashed? Umm... Reagan went from about 62% to 35% in his first two years. Based on when Reagan started to turn things around, it would be mid 2011 for Obama - and Obama was handed a much worse situation.

Btw, just before Bush was reelected he hit 45%, only serging slightly at election time. He went from a high of 90% after 9/11 down to 25%, straight down. If you take out 9/11 he started about 55% and went straight to 25%. That's crashed, that's about as crashed as a person can get.

No worries, Reagan took office, in 81 and on 1/28/83 was his highest disapproval rating of 56%. Obama is doing just fine even against the all mighty Reagan that republicans and nut wringers Goo over.

Yep, I agree they do need a leader but i don't see one out there right now and I think Newt is too much damaged goods.

The big problem is gonna be the Teabaggers that are so hyped that they will not agree that the sky is blue and unless the ones that get elected change once they get to DC the GOP will be deadlocked worse than congress is now.

Are you on drugs? There is no bullshit spread by the republicans. I can use your logic and say "everything you say is bullshit spewed by the liberals", and it will sound as dumb as you sound now. I'm talking from an economic standpoint. Increasing taxes isn't going to solve anything. You want to reduce the debt? How about increasing exports so the trade deficit is decreased? How about firing bernanke and getting rid of the printing press? Those would be steps in the right direction.

onwebcam 08-16-2010 08:49 PM

For the record the national debt is a debt owed by the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA a corporation which Obama is CEO. A company which has operated in bankruptcy since 1933 creating said debt. Said company needs to be dissolved. Iceland style.

mopek1 08-17-2010 05:46 AM

Bill Maher is liberal minded but at least he isn't afraid to say that liberal leaders/politicians are doing a poor job and need to get their asses moving.

Try to find a conservative media mogul who will say anything bad about a conservative leader.
