Yesterday I said I like Outlook...

today i wanted to upgrade to office 2010 and instead of upgrading it deleted my office 2007 and failed to install the new one. now my outlook is gone

fortunately i made a backup of the pst files first, it's not that i'd trust microsoft on this. asshats :disgust

sandman! 08-22-2010 06:55 PM

chronig 08-22-2010 07:10 PM

you did something wrong.

Grapesoda 08-22-2010 07:11 PM

I back up outlook everytime I make changes in contacts or any other area... no big deal

iSpyCams 08-22-2010 07:15 PM

I stopped using outlook when I discovered imap. Outlook cant handle it with a 6 GB gmail account.

Thunderbird is better, but once you get used to it just plain gmail is pretty good.

sandman! 08-22-2010 07:16 PM

there is a 64 bit version of outlook now that can handle huge files.

file>import and export>export to a file>personal folder file (.pst)>personal folder (check include subfolders)> *browse*>finish

----

you'll never have another issue with data... I save to an external drive, network drive and internal drive.

ahh, jeez, if it was that easy... but i actually use the calendar, contacts, tasks, notes and 8 email accounts with subfolders - and i synchronize that with my Android phone. and no other email program does that. :2 cents:

maybe the update process does not like my 10 gb of data in the pst files :Oh crap

why 10gb? my files are about 1.2 ish. I don't understand why you can't update the software and then load the data back in?

10 gb cause i have a few thousand emails with attachments, it adds up. someday i have to go through 8 years of email history and delete some stuff, but i still need to look up some old mails from time to time.

and the problem with outlook re-installs is that i have to re-add all email accounts and rules - or get some extra software which does that. i might do it, but if the update procedure would have worked as it is supposed to, this would not have been necessary to even think about. for now i am happy that i have the old outlook back

i've said it before, i'll say it again. gmail is the shit.

Mickey_ 08-23-2010 04:17 AM

Use outlook for contacts/calendar/tasks only. Use TB for email. You'll thank me later.

Maybe you missed an option during installation, I upgraded my Office 2007 without problems. :2 cents:

there was no options, just a big "upgrade" button. it went all fine, the progress bar showed 100% but it hung up at that point
