3D- Just a fad or here to stay?

What are your thoughts on the recent explosion of 3D movies, TVs, etc... Is it a fad or will it become the standard for entertainment?

HeadPimp 09-29-2010 09:33 AM

3d Movies are here to stay, have my doubts about 3D TVs though. They sound more like a gimic than something that is going to stick around.

MaDalton 09-29-2010 09:37 AM

i can imagine it will work when there are affordable TVs/Screens where you can watch 3D without glasses and with more than one person - until then i think it's only a gimmick

tranza 09-29-2010 10:03 AM

The glasses bother me. When they create something without glasses, I think I'll like it..

I'm the same way. Every time I watch a 3D movie, I get a tummy ache.

candyflip 09-29-2010 11:33 AM

Here to stay for at least 6 more years.

George Lucas just announced today that he's redoing all the Star Wars movies in 3d and will release one each year starting in 2012.

I ditto that. Technology has to catch up still. In the words of the great band Smash Mouth "its just like any fad it retracts before impact" and yes I have waited years to quote smash mouth.

rep me bitches.

Yo Adrian 09-29-2010 11:43 AM

I think it's a fad that will continue to come in and out of style, with each wave more technologically advanced than the last. I can't really see the day it'll work w/o glasses though.

I'm amazed people haven't realised the scam yet.

3D IS THERE TO SELL TELEVISIONS AND PREMIUM MOVIE TICKETS.

That is all.

The companies thought how the hell can we make people that just replaced their tube TVs with HD TVs buy ANOTHER TV? Simples! 3D!

Jarmusch 09-29-2010 11:56 AM

3D movies were around in the 50's and 60's. It's a fad that comes and goes.

2intense 09-29-2010 12:00 PM

It the future and here to stay!

Really? I'll be looking out for those!! Only the original 3 movies mind you, he shouldn't waste his time making the last 3 movies again, as they were terrible and it won't make them any better.

But i do agree though that 3D for now certainly seems nothing more than a gimmick that people didn't really want.

When HD was first announced, everyone was interested simply because it meant a better viewing picture. Watching sports in HD for me is great and well worth having.

3D however, people's first reaction was "ah ok, probably cool but not worth changing everything for again".

They show some sports matches in pubs here in 3D, but i've no interest in checking it out.

I just can't see the vast majority of people making the switch to 3D any time soon...

He's actually doing them all. Episode 1 - 6 in that order.

I agree and I read the main reason they are doing it is its harder to pirate 3 d movies. This way the only way you get the 3 d experience is in the theater. It gives me a headache.

u-Bob 09-29-2010 12:43 PM

<--- not a fan of 3d movies.

Stomped 09-29-2010 12:47 PM

It's real
However, what bugs me is the lack of blu ray titles in 3D
http://www.3dmoviesblog.com/3d-blu-ray/
Only 8 films in 3D??
And they expect us to buy those pricey HDTVs??
They are nuts..

kristin 09-29-2010 12:49 PM

I think it will be large for Blockbuster and kids movies and only when it first releases. I don't think it will catch on for TV or adult.

Blockbuster is no more

I think 3D has a great potential for adult

Scott McD 09-29-2010 12:50 PM

Another thing, i don't get why every damn movie now has to be in 3D.

Jackass 3D ?? Give me a break !! I just want to see fucking Jackass. I don't need or want to watch that in 3D...

halfpint 09-29-2010 03:45 PM

yep I think it will stay around for awhile

Great idea, but it might be little uncomfortable unless they were wireless.

Actually it has been around in some form since the 1890s. The 50's was the big hey day and then every 10-15 years it comes back around.

Seth Manson 09-29-2010 04:40 PM

I hope its here to stay, I love my 3D tv but it sucks that there are only 3 or 4 channels in 3D on DirecTV.

Watching sports in 3D is pretty cool and I normaly dont even like watching sports.

The 3D glasses dont bother me.

depends on how soon access shifting becomes an established fair use right. If we get it soon, it will evolve into autoscopic 3d, if not it will be the stupid must wear glasses bullshit they are currently push.
