PLAYERS BALL - Vegas - Artist input welcomed - Sponsors needed - Who wants to party?

Dear Players & Playettes,

I looks like we'll be doing another classic Players Ball in Vegas, probably January 9th. At this time, I'm still scouting venues and artists and would love some input. Over the years I've come to GFY to get suggestions and many times I take your advice.

Artists?

So for artists, obviously the big money budgets are gone for the moment, so that would eliminate the Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Drake and other big current names. The fun with throwing these Players Balls is that we can decide on the right artist for our crowd that fits within the budget. I think we've picked some pretty damn good ones over the years and I'd like to continue that trend.

Please post your suggestions in this thread. Some of the new "up and coming" artists might be in the budget, who would you like to see perform? I'm not going to limit ourselves to just rap/hip hop. Usually they are more affordable since they don't have the instruments and number of group members as a band. I'm open to all ideas though.

We can either add some new artists to the Players Ball roster or go back to our roots and bring back some classic ones.

If you like the classics, here's some options, if you like some please let me know or feel free to suggest more.

Doug E Fresh with Slick Rick
Flavor Flav or Ice-T as host (plus an artist to perform)
Too Short
Digital Underground (it's been at least 2 or 3 years since their last performance)
Cypress Hill
Fishbone
Biz Markie as house DJ, DJ Red Alert or Kid Capri
Naughty By Nature
Fat Joe

Now with some early sponsor support, here are some cool current artists I'd love to have

Nikki Minaj
Akon
California Swag District
Gucci Mane

Some classics with sponsor support:

Busta Rhymes
Tribe Called Quest (or just Q-Tip)
Ice Cube

Bring back a sponsors VIP area - yes or no?

At the moment, I'm thinking that for the supports to receive the a greater ROI, having a cool VIP area that is really exclusive, just a limited amount for only the sponsors to issue. Players Cards will not be used for this area but will still be good for admission.

I'd be looking to bring back the "player code" system where the sponsors email these codes to their VIP's and then they sign up on a registration page with that code for VIP.

Venue?

Stay at Sapphire Gentlemens Club (private ballroom)? Or find a new venue?

Please hit me up if you're considering a sponsorship. (theplayersball @ gmail.com)

We have a large newsletter of registered guests, all sponsors receive newsletter support, banner ad on the site, invitation codes for guests, tons of exposure during the event, lot's of hype and exposure leading up to the Ball, URL on passes and lot's more.

And at this time I'd like to welcome BuiltToConvert to the Players Ball sponsor lineup!

OK, let's get some feedback!

DMoney, I'd just like to once again offer the suggestion of having it at a venue that doesn't rape everybody with drink prices.

There are some other options in town that would love to have the business and it wouldn't be $7 a beer at them.

Fremont St. is such a fun place and you could definitely get a great deal at one of the Casino Venues there.

Or how about over at The Orleans? Or the Palace Station Casino?

Some of your funnest (to me anyway) Players Balls took place at older buildings with a fun vibe. The one in New Orleans about ten years ago for instance comes to mind.

Just because this is Vegas doesn't mean we have to pay a fortune for a drink. Hell, the Riviera is just down the street on the strip. I was there partying the other night and drank $3 screw drivers on a Friday night. :)

They have a nice room there with a big stage that isn't really being used at the moment (they were doing karaoke in there that night)

Anyway, that's just my two cents. As far as entertainment...it doesn't really matter. You always provide a good show, I'm just thinking that the whole feel and camaraderie of the Ball would be a lot better if I didn't have a $500 bar tab when I leave.

D-Money 10-05-2010 09:43 AM

Thanks for your input Robbie, I'll definitely look into those venues.

I loved that New Orleans venue, State Palace Theater. It was massive and set the perfect vibe.

Good idea.
I'm sure they'll be able to give Darren a better deal also.

Waz' up PLAYER?

Long time since I made the Vegas show in January but it looks like it's time for me to PARTY AGAIN in 2010. I say it's time to say GOOD BYE and GOOD RIDDANCE to 2010 and party like it's 1999 and what better way than The Player's Ball in VEGAS!!!

Darren for those of us that have attended any of your parties we just want you to know how much your hard work over the years is appreciated by ALL the PLAYERS that have attended your "Players Ball" for over a decade now :pimp

:pimp:pimpDMoney's PIMP HAND is READY!!:pimp:pimp

Vegas 2010 will be the beginning of a new era for our industry combining the old with the new so in that spirit it would be awesome if you could bring in a veteran along with a newcomer that's just making a name for themselves.

I know that Too Short is always a great "Go To" guy and the crowd loves him. 4 me Digital Underground is perfect. Maybe have old school combined with some new act like GFE - Granola Funk Experiment or California Swag District and you would have one FUCKING AWESOME show! Or you could go with 2 new acts that go well together.

As far as venues I have always liked attending the Player's Ball either in a hotel ballroom or a venue that is within walking distance of the host hotel. If complimentary shuttle is offered then this is not as big a concern. Vegas offers so many venues that I think that this is secondary to WHO will be performing. As far as the Sapphire Gentlemen's Club you will need to ask those that have been there what they think.

This is Vegas so the VIP areas are definitely needed! :pimp

Awesome post Jim!

I'll be hitting you up. Great input, thanks!

The funny thing is, these parties have been going on for 12 years, so if I bring back an artist from 3 years ago, 7 years ago, etc, most of the audience hasn't seen them at a Ball before. And for those that have, if it's a great show, it's time for another!

I'm always trying to add artists that haven't performed at the Ball first, though that's not always how it works out in the end.

XPays 10-05-2010 11:12 AM

Tribe would be megapimp

PornGreenDavidK 10-05-2010 11:16 AM

Theo 10-05-2010 11:20 AM

let's get some feedback from PB veterans :)

TrixieRacer 10-05-2010 11:38 AM

Cypress Hill did an off-the-hook show a few years ago at that year's Players Ball. Their show made me a fan when I hadn't been previously. That said, I would absolutely love to see them perform again!!!

Akon and Ice Cube would also be awesome. (I'm sure you already have the hookup. However, just in case, I have a good friend who knows Akon fairly well.)

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 10-05-2010 11:40 AM

Fishbone!!! :pimp

Shown above playing at one of my favorite venue's in San Francisco, the Warfield.

yup, I think you need to sit down and reflect, as to what filled the venues in the past little while. Where people had a great time up and dancing etc.

This is not 10 yrs ago where you could fill huge halls and bring in big name talent.

Its time to go back to grass roots:2 cents:

...I always like a good party, you're always the best at throwing them...

The cupboards in January are going to be pretty bare for most. That said, do we have dates and a Venue announced yet by AVN for the actual Internext show? Let's talk later this week, perhaps Thursday..

Ice Cube was one of my fav shows, but Naughty by Nature would be awesome as well.

The Sapphire was pretty cool venue but was also kinda limited IMO. I like the old place, even tho its closed down was cool to walk around, and the same with the Palms

campimp 10-05-2010 09:25 PM

Yes she does.

And she's pretty hot too, it would be nice to have her perform.

If we ever book her, I think you'll have to come out for it.

Evil Chris 10-06-2010 09:35 AM

I would like to see Mike Tyson show up to a Player's Ball. That would be cool.

Were you at the one where he did show up?

It was at the Venetian in C2K back in 2000.

I loved walking him into the VIP, it looked like he was an invited guest of mine.

Perception is reality.

Thanks for organising it again. I enjoyed myself last year!

But most of the artist i don't know, or heard of them 15 years ago.
Maybe some European House, Greek Folmusic, Reggae (Pato Banton)

Hire plenty of go go dancers so it doesn't feel like a sausage fest :2 cents:
