Elected officials are elected. A politician can simply be anyone involved with party politics.

School superintendents are often elected... not often one considers them a politician. The whole voting thing is not a key element.

Being appointed the secretary of HLS does not make you a politician, IMHO.

Yes she is.

One could even argue that she is an elected official even though she was appointed. She was elected by default from no argument against her. Plenty of potential Cabinet members were voted out.

The Director of Homeland Security helps shape public policy. Hell she can even create legislation and help shepherd it into law. First Ladies even do this.

That isn't a politician?

The problem is she does not need to create legislation to become law, she can just create laws and call them "policies".

Bad link.

The poll questions are bullshit. It does not matter if it improves security, it is clearly against the 4th amendment.

Most people on the left are outraged from what I have seen. The Obama comment is pretty funny though are you saying that the Maverick would have done anything different?

That scan pic is crazy you can actually see the dude's penis. I can't fucking believe they are going to be allowed to use these machines. How long until you have to step in to the machine and spread your cheeks?

Funny you assume that I would want McCain in there rather than Obama. :disgust

Bush=McCain=Obama. it really is not rocket science.

So I should see the left marching on Washington and demanding impeachment?

Nope, but you will see them stay home on election day in a few weeks and hand the house and maybe senate back to the republicans.

I'm not assuming anything, I asked you a question do you think McCain would have done anything different? The people had 2 choices. McCain or Obama. If you are saying that Obama was the wrong choice than you are also saying McCain would have been the better choice. It's really not complicated, you have to pick one or the other thats the way the system works. You can't sit there and tell people that voted for Obama they made the wrong choice and at the same time say you wouldn't have voted for McCain either. I'm not happy with Obama but as bad as things might be I'm fairly sure McCain/Palin would have been even worse.

There's always another option.

So they spend all this money but users can opt-out if they don't want to walk thru. I'm pretty sure that you can patted-down anyway regardless of whether or not you use the machine anyway so whats the point?

Also I wonder if they're required to state how much radiation you get from these things?

According to the manufacturer, this particular device exposes you to the same amount of X-rays as flying in an airplane does is therefore safer then actually flying in an airplane as far as radiation exposure goes.

I'm skeptical though because while you are technically exposed to more X-ray radiation (from the sun) when flying, the amount varies depending on the position of the sun, cloud cover, solar flares, etc. There's also the earth's own atmosphere and Magnetosphere that protects us.

I'm pretty sure that these machines are safe for occasional travellers, but what about frequent flyers who have to be exposed to this thing more often?

To me, these machines are yet another useless knee-jerk reaction driven only by fear. I don't think they will do anything to stop air terrorism, and instead only drive up the price of flying and increase the tension of flyers everywhere.

Speaking of Hitler (every internet argument eventually does), here's an interesting ballot paper... the selection areas for the two choices are vastly different sizes. :)

http://thsrv.com/hl/http://upload.wi...-Anschluss.jpg

Voting ballot from 10 April 1938. The ballot text reads "Do you agree with the reunification of Austria with the German Empire that was enacted on 13 March 1938, and do you vote for the party of our leader Adolf Hitler?," the large circle is labelled "Yes"

A member of the Democratic Party, she was the 21st Governor of Arizona from 2003 to 2009. She was Arizona's third female governor, and the first woman to win re-election. :thumbsup

It's like they don't want to use their own supply. Perhaps the xrays are harmful to the body, or something.

DaddyHalbucks 10-26-2010 10:11 PM

A good test of whether a politician is a tyrant: their rules and laws only apply to the people --not to them.
