Wow! It's been a looooooooong time since I've heard that. Half the people on this board are such noobs they probably won't have the slightest idea what you're talking about. :winkwink:

carzygirls 11-16-2010 08:12 PM

oh... in that case why not just submit to become a reviewer and then after approved recommend your own sites? Even if sites are not relative to category you are the admin of that specific category... ya know ;) :thumbsup

I was an editor 6 years ago..
I been trying to get my old account but I don't use that email anymore..:(

FreeHugeMovies 11-16-2010 09:13 PM

I have some mainstream stuff I'm trying to get accepted and of course it isn't working out.

Argos88 11-16-2010 10:01 PM

It's impossible to get commercial sites listed at DMOZ, unless you CORRUPT one of their editors (which is AGAINST the TOS and will get the editor banned and your sites and profile banned 4 life) or you are part of the 1% of people who get lucky...

Otherwise, you won't get listed, period. It is just not going to get accepted, nor reviewed at all. It its just not going to happen.

.

Zorgman 11-16-2010 10:12 PM

Any adult versions of DMOZ flying around? I know there is a lot of directories but one that is community based maybe.

jkthedesigner 11-16-2010 10:14 PM

Oh you can get listed. Just have to know the right people.

Zorg, not any that stand out like DMOZ.

There was a guy who was offering his services to get my site listed. He wanted 300 per listing which seemed a little high. Looking for his contact info now.

VGeorgie 11-18-2010 02:32 PM

I have several mainstream sites with high listings in their respective DMOZ categories, and they don't pull a lot of traffic from the listings. I got lots more from basic Google text and image searches. I think there are better people to try to corrupt to get more traffic.

I even have a site that's listed in a reference within what I understand is a popular Wikipedia article (I didn't put it there). Very little traffic. There's no SE juice from it because they nofollow their external links. :(

Agent 488 11-18-2010 02:38 PM

people don't want dmoz links for the traffic.

I used to be an editor at Dmoz long, long ago (2000ish). It was strange. I secretly had my own sites and had to hide that fact in order to get in. A little crooked, yes, but I only listed two or three of my own mainstream sites while there. The bureaucracy was insane. Far worse than even Wikipedia is today. In a way it was like working for the KGB. Everyone was under suspicion. :1orglaugh Anyway, I'm sure things are quite a bit different now.

SomeCreep 11-18-2010 05:14 PM

Lol @ Dmoz. I wish it had physical form, so I could take a shit on it.

Well I must be in the lucky 1% because I have been in since 2008 simply by following their process to the letter and being patient.
