Many of those that are required to register as sex offenders have been convicted of a misdemeanor...Sexual Misconduct...which often does not have anything to do with a minor as many people think. Sexual Misconduct even includes pissing in a public place where you may or may not have been exposed to the public. In my opinion they have gone overboard on requiring those convicted of Sexual Misconduct to register for life. BTW...moving to another state does not relieve one of having to register for this conviction.

A person that I know was convicted of pissing in an alley behind a bar...at night...when a cop spotted him. He was convicted of Sexual Misconduct and was shocked to learn that he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. He moved out of state only to learn the hard way that he was required to register in the new state. He notified California that he no longer resided in California and made the mistake of informing them of his new address. After some period of time he was arrested for not registering in the new state. The judge did not give him jail time but informed his that if he failed to register he would not be lenient the next time.

There are several misconceptions about California public urination charges including the rumor that these charges can result in a person needing to register as a sex offender. This is simply not accurate and can result in people having far more fear than is necessary if they are facing public urination charges. Many believe (wrongly) that public urination charges are part of Chapter 617.23 (Indecent Exposure Crimes) which would be charged as sex crimes.
Wobbler Crimes

Public urination charges are commonly considered a "wobbler crime" which means that the District Attorney may elect to elevate the charges for public urination from a mere ticket to a misdemeanor. The fines for charges associated with public urination in California are also dictated by individual county rules and may vary widely across California.
California Penal Code Section 372

Public urination charges are typically charged as part of California Penal Code Section 372. This section of the penal code is a misdemeanor charge and is part of the public nuisance clauses of California's Penal Code. In addition, there could be charges that include endangering public health that could also be included in public urination charges.

He's still right in the sense of the point he was trying to make. People see those sex offender lists and for whatever reason connect them to child molesters. When the reality is the majority are actually minor bs infractions like flashing.

Well...it is apparent that he was not charged with simply urinating...but was charged with Indecent Exposure....and was convicted of Sexual Misconduct....a misdemeanor...which indicates to me that more than a cop saw him taking a piss...but maybe not.

Yes that is the point...many are convicted of misdemeanors that have nothing to do with children and little to do with sex in general...and yet are required to register for the rest of their lives as a sex offender.

using that database, local people figured out that a firefighter was a sex offender and he was hauled off to jail, they aren't suppose to have that job

I was listening to an LA radio show (Adam Carolla Show) and they were playing around checking addresses to see who had the most sex offenders living around them. One of the hosts had something like 84 within a 1 mile radius of her apartment and like 5 or 6 in her building.

I think i can easily live my whole life without "mistakenly" getting put onto a sex offender registry list. As i learned, there are no mistakes when you get put on that list, only liars when asked why they are on that list.

These people lie to young children in order to lure them into a position to take advantage and hurt them. You don't think they can lie to you convincingly about why they are on a sex offender registry? "Ohh i got in trouble while peeing in public" Really??? Yea right dude!!

The maps sites and sex offender Apps i use on my phone, list all of the charges as to what the person was convicted of. No guessing or wondering, BAM!! right there.

I never gave a shit one way or another, but after i had kids(3 and 4 month old) and found out a close friends daughter was molested by her friends father who was on a list, i pay closer attention to where these people live and what they were convicted of.

If my kids get looked at wrong and my phone App has a picture of you and it says you hurt kids, Ass Whooping time!! No if ands or butts!!
