Do link sellers remove links before time is up?

I have a question to any of you that buy link (also sell of course)

Lately i started checking back at some deals i did a few months ago and realized that a few of the deals had totally vanished and others have partially disappeared.

Every email that i send to the webmaster i get different answers but obviously never got a clear answer of "i deleted your links"

I wanted to know if i just have bad luck in finding link sellers or is this a common thing.

* I just want to clarify - not all the people i bought links from deleted them.
There are some VERY TRUST WORTHY folks here on gfy that i bought links from and am very satisfied from the whole process.

If it weren't for the fact that it'd be too scary to have Google find such a thing, I'd create a real nice list of bad buyers and bad sellers.

Something I am seeing more and more often is this:

Mike Smith of New York is selling hardlinks by month, quarter, half and year.

Sanji Indian from Bangalore buys a quarter from Mike. He gets this deal for 50 links for $50. He also does the same on 3 or 4 other networks.

Sanji then comes to GFY also offering 50 links for a YEAR and he wants $125. He sells 4 or 5 packages.

He now has $350+ and your links expire in 3 to 6 months... Or sometimes even less!

Sanji makes lots of excuses. Eventually you notice one site has an email to NY-Mike... You get a hold of him and he has no idea who you are. He kind of remembers selling a link to some Indian guy that had a domain you are asking about...

Not just Indian guys, but yeah we used to pay for 12 months to people who didn't own the site at all and would buy for a month from the real owner and pocket the difference. Now we pay extra for 3 month renewals or try to double check the paypal and whois details but they rarely match anyway to be honest.

v_rocks, we spoke about that your idea in the past. It would however be problematic for google to stumble upon it...
We really need to think of something to keep us "clean" guys' heads above the water and stop letting the "bad guys" fuck us over...
We're in it for the long run and treat our business seriously but there are too many asses out there making it hard for us...

Paz - after a while of buying links wouldn't you have a shit load of renewals? Seems like a real pain in the ass... Does it help you overcome the "Indian" issue?

One of the things we do, is we have our PayPal and Paxum business email match that of our Public WHOIS, with accurate address, phone number, etc. Nothing is hidden. Add to the fact we offer invoices with our business number included, and people can feel safe in doing business with us.

I think the big thing peple should exercise when buying links is due diligence. People need to verify with whom they are doing business. For the record, the **only** broker we authorize to sell for us is Rebel-Ads. Everything else is through myself directly -- the owner of the sites in our network.

In the end, due diligence will lessen the risk of being scammed.

Paz: One option to avoid that nonsense is to send an email to the owner of the site asking if the person selling the links is authorized to do so. Personally, I am immediately wary of doing business with people who feel a need to hide their business information from public view.

It is a pain but in some markets it's not a bad idea to check your links every few months or so anyway. After a while you build a relationship with owners and could extend but we still like to check.

A lot of the things we check for eg removed links, site offline/expired, page no longer indexed/cached, robots.txt or meta tag deindexed etc could be automated with a script but we've never gotten round to it
