It is not that they closed the site/business, most like this is kind of people. They will ignore you but once your site becomes bigger, I am sure they will suddenly respond.

That's what I think. I believe you need PR and/or high traffic otherwise they'll ignore you.

It's not about website PR, neither its traffic. But what I mainly care is self hosted, unique content.

Seems like most of these types of directory webmasters only want to bother to reply to owners of trading-sites with high alexa rank scores. At least some of them will show that in their rules though - the ones who don't waste registrants time.

We have it stated in our rules, but even for the others, if you got the directory nothing to offer at all, why would they list you?
For your idea we get about 30 mails a day from people wanting on our list, 99% of the mails are from junk sites that have 100% stolen content or are no different from the other 29 sites applying. Most mails are copy paste mails that they mass send to people.

to get listed with us you need to have a quality site and we will list you, for a good ranking in our list we want something in return (traffic/backlink etc.)
