Planning a new website and I need input...

Hello,

I was a lurker a few years back and have finally gotten the green light from the wife to move forward on my mid-life crisis project. I have a concept for a website that I believe hasn't been done before, and I think it'll go.

Without getting in to too many specifics, it will be an amateur/pro-amateur site with models spanning the range from softcore (pinup/bra/panty/lingerie shots) to hardcore (anything we can come up with). There will be no males models on the site because I want to showcase the women. Girl-girl will be the only multi-model shoots. The site will be all original content. These girls have never been seen on the internet before.

So far, I have my planning done, have found:
  • my breakeven point
  • my domain name
  • a credit card billing company (Zombaio)
  • a hosting company (Cirtexhosting)
  • started building the webpage
  • some models

My goal is to shoot for a style somewhere between Suicide Girls and ALSScans.

So, my questions for the assembled horde are these...
  1. What kind of membership numbers should I look for?
  2. We're shooting for at least 1 new model a week. More once we get rolling.
  3. As a monthly membership site with some minor merchandising. Whats a good monthly rate?
  4. What have I missed? Okay, besides an affiliate program...

I appreciate all of your input and will keep you all apprised of the progress we're making.

I can input a couple ideas. I'm not a bigshot like most of these guys but here goes. I run a network of smaller sites. I have one similar to what you are doing. It's called chixnodix.com. All girls and most are amateur living in my small town. I do have to say that a site like this is much harder to get going. You should have at least 100 girls for content and don't even plan on breaking even for 6 months to 1 year. How I financed my step into the adult world before chixnodix was simply telling other guys in my small town about another site I have with all local girls from my town. The guys in my town went crazy for my site which has girls from our local banks, hospitals, fast food joints, gas stations, etc. etc. I am always approached by guys telling me how hot they thought my site was because they heard about it and saw their favorite bartender or waitress on there.
Anyway good luck with your new venture and if you ever have a question feel free to drop me a PM at garylee at cuntrybabes dot com.

H Xelot,

As a so far pretty unsuccessful adult webmaster I can maybe give you some advice so that you don't make the same mistakes I did.
Firstly, think well about how you are going to promote your site. How will you drive traffic to your site? An affiliate program is probably a must.
Once you have the traffic, it has to convert too. What makes your site unique and why will people subscribe? You have your own content, so that's already an advantage, you can adjust your course a bit while you're going.
I can't tell you much about the number of members/revenue to expect, but I wouldn't expect too much in the beginning. Maybe some more successful webmasters can give you an indication for that.

That said, don't let me discourage you. Starting an adult site sounds like a great way to overcome that mid-life crisis

Good luck!

PS: Gary Lee, I wish someone would start a site like yours in my town. I wouldn't mind seeing that girl from the gas station in a different setting

man i love the "local" angle. i think its probably the first attempt at true local that i've heard of in porn. most new site owners shoot too big. dominos was a small local pizza shop long before it was a global giant.

Also, what is the best strategy for affiliates? Are there general rules or setups? Or is it a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" kind of system?
