Cant change Tumblr NSFW vs Adult setting?

With Tumblr, porn blogs can be defined as either "NSFW" or "Adult".

Per Tumblr, "NSFW blogs may contain occasional nudity or mature/adult oriented content" and "Adult blogs contain substantial nudity or mature/adult oriented content".

So basically its softcore vs hardcore

One of my accounts has 3 blogs, all of which would definitely be considered softcore porn and nothing more than that, BUT under Settings > Site > Directory > Tumblr has grayed out the NSFW and Adult option, and set my sites to "Adult" on its own, which therefore means they will not be indexed on Google.

I want to be able to change the blogs to NSFW but the option is not given to me. Has anyone else ran into this problem before? And is there a fix?

I would guess it's perhaps due to the volume of softcore content on the blogs rather than a softcore vs hardcore issue?

Reading the descriptions of what tumblr deems 'nsfw' vs 'adult', the word 'substantial' seems to be key. If most of your posts are softcore porn (ie: your blogs contain substantial amounts of softcore porn) that would appear to fit the tumblr definition of 'adult'. Tumblr doesn't seem to really address softcore vs hardcore, they simply address the volume of mature/adult-oriented content on any given blog.

If you want to save these blogs (in terms of getting them reindexed/switched back to 'nsfw') maybe include more non-porn content and then contact tumblr to get a re-assessment (if that's possible?)

that sucks though, good luck with whatever you decide to do

I appreciate the response... it does make sense. At the same time, I can find a lot of tumblr blogs indexed on Google even though 100% of their content is porn. So I wasn't sure if there was some kind of trick or setting that I'm missing.

Fortunately, it's still possible to get decent traffic to a Tumblr blog without the help of Big G, so even if I can't get these 3 blogs ranked, I'll continue to post on them here and there.

From my knowledge, Adult doesn't prevent google from indexing it.

I accidentally set one of my softcore tumblr blogs to adult instead of nsfw so yeah I won't get google traffic either. Havent found a way to fix it. If you find a way to change it without involving tumblr (I don't really wanna call attention to my sites.. doubt they'll help anyway) you let me know..
