Need advice on SEO
I run a adult social network at plugin dot com and am struggling with SEO. To protect our members we are a closed network and so its hard to get good links coming in.
We have started to open up parts of the network, such as our main network access pages, and all the commercial pages like facebook does, and have been piping these to google and bing using sitemaps but its taking forever to get any real traffic back. We also have a problem that we have a great/amazing domain but we are competing with all the wordpress plugins out there so have a lot of SEO work to do... however if we nail it there will be tons of traffic.... 470 million results show up for the keyword plugin and i bet its 90% hardcore geeks sitting down dieing for some real interactive pussy After trying just about everything we have decided to put all our efforts into SEO and nothing else as buying traffic doesnt seem to convert, advertising is really cost prohibative, directorys suck etc etc but we have a awesome, thriving and growing community if anyone has any advice or feedback on how we can gain visability in the adult space it would be great thanks! |

so any real advice? from what I can see link farming, cross linking networks and affiliate programs seems to be the height of seo technology at the moment. would be great to hear how the tier 1 guys are pulling mad traffic and how they retain it...

Well you just closed the door on yourself. Directory's suck... yes... but there are free ones and they are valuable for good backlinks. Got to build backlinks. What is your domain name and niche?

thanks for the feedback - we are a adult social network, but are striving to bee clean and pure and not to end up a advertising haven. similar to facebook, anyone is free to come and create pages and promote their products and services to our community which is now over 13,000 members (we delete stale accounts if we didnt would be over 50,000 by now)
we opened up what we could of the network - mainly our pages since people use them to advertise products and services so it seems ok, similar to facebooks - without exposing users and its helped quite a bit, actually quite a lot, so we are going to build a lot more pages (want one? its free and great seo!) as we can push them to google using the sitemaps. also found a great list of linkdumps here and signed up and have started to see some traffic coming in from them as well so thats also helping with regards to linkdumps / linksites - on the ones that request backlins do people expect you to keep the links to them up after you have submitted? ie if you add a link to your home page, get approved, then remove it will they likewise remove you? we would love to get linked to as we are a real reasource for both users and for industry people looking to get to solid users.... but dont want our home page to become a link farm in return.
