Where to find a Business Angel or a Mentor?
Hey Guys,
we´ve developed a very big project which would be a nice cash bringing one but the question we have right now is if we should consider to get a business angel in our boat or rather a mentor to move the things forward as quick as possible. We´ve already tested the project and there were a lot signups.. Anyways.. we need some input on how to start...?

In my opinion it is best to send an email and meet for lunch with the potential investor, then just make a scheme of the project and ask if he/she would be interested in it.
Most business angels in here (Spain) advice against being afraid of your project being "stolen", as they find it illogical. They have a lot of private networks, like Acció Xarxa d´Inversors Privats, AEBAN (Spanish Assotiation of Business Angels) or BCNba (from Barcelona). Even if the main ones might not be interested in adult (or they may, it depends), you can have some names for the network to follow and they will probably send you to someone that will. I don´t know a lot about other networks outside of my country, but I think the research may as well start in the main concentration, if not by private connections which are normally far better. It depends on the project you have. Anyway: good luck |

@Madame ,
Thats the easiest way of course. The problem here is, that i realized some investors are more up to normal stuff like a facebook sale app or such bullshit. Finally i will give it a shot on those spanish websites since my website is in 3 languages so spanish is included. To be honest, im finding it kind of difficult to find anybody. But its a damn nice concept and two years developing.. its a shame!

You are right. Yet there are lots of institutions which may be a good place to start seeking, as surely someone knows somebody else who might know someone who will be interested

One of the issues you will face just with your thread is there is no way to tell if it would benefit someone like me because of the vague way you have talked about the site.
Make sure the person knows about your Niche at least so they can better help you.

^^^just a quick word of advice, MGF has a bit of a reputation regarding their reaction to potential competitors (see ELM, and there were also rumors back in the day that MGF may have played a role in the closure of another similar site called SupportMyWish).
If I were you I wouldn't make public any direct comparisons between your new proposed site and MGF, why invite potential trouble? just my , wish ya luck with your new venture

I said its similar.. but Iam NOT a competition for them.
Its easy to copy something.. but we are not copying anyone. its more based on a project some friends of mine have and it exists even longer then the mentioned one.. I was wondering if they try to close PBG ^^

no, I feel ya. I wasn't intending to imply that you were copying them (or anyone else). I raised the ELM situation cuz that site was in now way a copy of MGF and still they ran into some legal drama. It was pretty ridiculous but once lawyers get involved ish gets real, regardless of the merit of the claim
I only raised it cuz the last thing you need when you're starting a new project is some company causing you needless trouble. like I said before I wish ya the best of luck

As someone else mentioned, don't be so vague about your site when looking for partners or mentors. Most people aren't going to meet with you without some idea of what you have to offer.
