why do you want to go free?
with a good site you will make enough to not care about the small hosting costs

Don't fuck around with free hosting. If you can't afford a few bucks per month on cheap shared hosting, maybe you're not ready for this.

Hey I have a solution for you, for only 6$ (0,50$/month) you will get a whole year of shared hosting on HostBlast it's way better than a free hosting you don't risk to get your website closed !

After fiddling with Tumblr and various shared host providers I concluded that a server on Amazon's web services is the best solution. Depending on the chosen server model(s) your first year is cost-free. Will take some time until you've studied the documentation, but you'll learn a lot and you can tailor your servers/services to your needs. Compared to an inexpensive shared host this AWS-based machine I'm using now is lightning-fast and I'm king of my own castle. You should give it a try.

Amazon is OK with running adult content off of AWS?

How long should it take to start making money and getting a lot of traffic when you are first starting out?

I've talked with Amazon consultants (and read their TOS, too): they are not interested in whatever your content is. They are selling infrastructure and give you the tools to set it up. That's all.

I agree. After you make money, you can rent managed hosting or a virtuell server with own IP.

Do you pay for organic traffic for the first 6 months? Can you suggest to me some good places to buy banner spots?

Thanks
