I'm going to launch a new site.. been while though. I got some questions, any help?

Hey everyone, how's things.

For me, I'm at the point where I'm thinking of scrapping it all and starting fresh. Rather than repair old websites and go hunting for links etc it might be a good idea to throw in the towel and start fresh. Do you think that's a good idea?

It's been years since I've launch any sort of website and things change so I'm curious what's different and if there are any tips you guys could give. I'm an affiliate promoting other websites etc. I have a really nice layout, fantastic even, ultra fast etc.. I haven't even settled on a name yet or anything but the structure is mostly finished.

I'm looking around at different websites and I'm not seeing any sort of age gates anymore. Have rules changed around those types of things? Are browsers now smart enough to detect and block websites based on content? Any ideas for these types of things. I'm in Canada too if that matters or not.

Back in the day, everything was about links. Are links still as important for getting google organic search traffic? Back in the day you could trade links but I think that became frowned upon and turned negative. What's the word these days, is buying links effective and worthwhile? What's a good way to get in google's good graces?

My new site features outbound links to galleries and whatnot. Is it recommended these days to have them open in a new page / tab or should the user leave your site to go to that site directly? I'm not sure which is the best method these days, any ideas?

These are just a couple questions I had, hoping you guys can help me out with any info you have.

Thanks, cheers everyone!

You can't just buy 10,000 backlinks anymore and climb the rankings. Links are definitely still important though. People create PBNs (Private blog networks) to juice their sites, but google etc is getting better at detecting them.

If you're going to start fresh I suggest starting in mainstream and not adult. Adult is exponentially harder to make money in compared to mainstream.

Well I still make money in adult and still can, I just need a new site, previous ones are old and have so many bad links these days pointed to them, they've had issues with wordpress slowdowns and whatnot so I built something slick and clean and minimal and rather than replace current site I'd rather start fresh.

I really just need to know about the things I mentioned above. I also have one other thing I thought of since then. Back then it was important (I think) to have "nofollow" tags on all outbound links. Is this still the case?

I'm not an SEO expert so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I believe the consensus is that you need a healthy mix of inbound and outbound links. To make the site look as organic as possible. If someone is making a site for the purpose of it being useful (and not trying to game search engines) there would be normal outbound links to go with inbound links.

Also in regards to starting fresh, why not just go into google webmaster tools and disavow the bad links so you can take advantage of the existing age/links of the site?

Hello, Imho - that is the right way to move on. It is very easy today to disvow the links that are bad ... after identification off course (many tools out there).

Things changed a lot, that is true - but there is and will be money in adult. Understanding of changes and adaptation is paramount thing, kind of make it or break it.

If it is just an personal "feeling" of a need for radical change - i can understand that, but bare in mind that whatever direction you take it, after initial charm of new and fresh project, there is always hard work and constant adaptation to whatever changes in the digital ecosystem... so you might end up at the similar point.

Yes, mainstream industries can be a goldmine for experienced adult marketeer - due to lack of fierce competition (exceptions to some, but still). Personally i applied (long time ago) the hands on adult competitive approach to travel industry, with tangible success back then, even built in house affiliate program introducing Pay Per Signup flat fee commission that was welcomed by affiliates as percentage REV model in THAT industry was prone to constant conflict and misunderstandings...

I wish you all the luck any direction you take!

It's a mix of old and new in that it's a slick, mobile-friendly, minimal and fast website that links to mobile friendly hosted video galleries.

I've found that I have far more better luck with FHG than with a tube style video player and now the FHG's I'm linking to are all mobile friendly and professionally made in a way to entice the users into venturing further into the paysite to see more.

My niche I suppose would be "new porn", so latest releases from top sites etc.

Any answers on any of the questions I had in the original post? What happened to warning / entry pages where you agree you're 18+? I don't see them on adult sites these days, do I still need them? If so, why don't all adult sites have them? The big ones I mean.
