SEO & Directories

I have a question on SEO and directories. I know directories aren't the most authoritative for SEO. But do you feel that any of them are worthwhile? Maybe to help build some kind of domain authority?

For instance, 69dir.com. I know it's a cheap directory link. Like $5 or something. Possibly do you think the link could end up doing more harm than good?

I want to start doing some SEO for a niche site and want to get more feedback on whether this is something that is even worth my time or money. I am going to supplement it with guest post, infographics, etc.

I stay clear of the links from such directories, they are usually full of weird, shitty sites, escorts, sex shops etc., they are probably considered spammy by SEs (your example 69dir.com gets zero traffic from Google). Better try to get the links from sites related to your niche, you should always benefit from them.

Thank you for your feedback. Yeah, I think I am going to scrap the whole directory idea. I wouldn't be surprised if 69dir.com has been hit by a manual penalty or something.

We give up directories, useless for SEO.

If you can get a link from a directory like theporndude then it's ok for SEO but that king of directories like 69dir will only harm your SEO! Just my 2 cents!

Ok, thanks a lot for your help. Yeah 69dir.com looks like crap. I mean I checked on the quality of sites in their directory and was like I see why it only cost $5 LOL. Maybe I will see if I can get in for the site you recommend. That would be awesome!

there are about 6-7 proper directories. they also offer reviews for each site.
but all of us are really selective. (we can be, because we get over 30 mails a day of people wanting to be added)
Pretty sure none of the proper directories sell links btw. (atleast we don't)

Reason most people want to get added to our site is because we have highly targeted traffic, the link is just a small bonus.

The best backlinks are those who help you to rank, the best thing to do is:
  • Make a list of the top 5 sites that are ranking for the term you are interested to be in the first page.
  • Go to Link Opportunities Tool for SEO Professionals - LinksSpy.com and see where they are getting their backlinks from, id they are resources list you can ask for the backlink and most of the times they will give you one, since you are in the same market
  • If they are from a PBN you can analize the characteristics of the sites to build one.
  • If they are buying those backlinks, you know where they are getting gthem from, how much it cost and which one works the best.

Linksspy has a 14 day free trial, cheers.

Some good options listed here. Porngatherer gets you a ton of quality clicks.

Most of them list as nofollow so it wont do much to your seo anyway.
