I just watched Cannibal Holocaust this morning. You'll probably have to torrent it since it was banned in so many countries. I usually hear about a movie being banned and it usually seems like it was for no good reason.

This movie however, probably deserved it.

They actually killed real animals while filming, including a giant snapping turtle. First they cut the head off, then they turn it over and hack the soft underbelly off exposing all the internal organs inside, yanking them out and playing with them. The head even continues to snap for a few seconds after they decapitate it. They also shoot a pig in the head, stab a little muskrat looking thing with a knife, cut a snake in half, squash a tarantula and cut the tiny face off a monkey with a machete.

Not really sure how they got away with killing so many animals just to make a movie. Apparently the creator was charged with obscenity but got off.

You might have seen this image floating around the net too. It comes from this film. (she's actually sitting on a bicycle seat and just has a chiunk of wood in her mouth to make it look like she is impaled)

Also was the first movie I've seen where they show a closeup of a penis being chopped off.

i am all for special effects etc. for entertainment - whatever people consider entertainment. but this is sick and needs to be prosecuted

Actually I was wrong, they were convicted of obscenity. But they never went to prison. This was back in 1980 so maybe sufficient laws were not in place at that time. The film is supposedly banned in over 50 countries.

At one point they were even charged with murder since many people believe he actually killed people during the filming. Pretty interesting reading here:

Cannibal Holocaust is the most realistic & gruesome film I've seen. If they really killed animals making it I'd believe it. Hopefully that girl wasn't really raped with the rock though. The documentary style and music make it downright creepy. On a related note DO NOT watch Cannibal Holocaust 2, it's terrible and nothing like the first.

Bought an original DVD, so not banned here, however it was 3 years ago.

The movie is cruel, but not that horrible. You can notice many of the scenes are faked.

They didnt kill the animals for fun. Bear Grills does the same in Ultimate Survival.

The most cruel scene I have seen was probably putting the cat into the pool full of rats in "The men behind the sun". That was CRUEL. :-(

Obviously anything involving humans was faked, but none of the animal killing was. Supposedly they ate the turtle, and the natives probably ate the pig. But what about the tarantula and snake?

They also had to kill two monkeys since they didn't get enough footage when they killed the first one.

Not that I am one of those animal activisits or anything. Just seems pretty hardcore for a horror movie.

I had to check out A Serbian Film based on what people were saying on here. Now that is some twisted shit. Probably the most sadistic and evil ending to a film I have ever seen.:thumbsup

If you watch A Serbian Film, it will take weeks to leave your memory. Seriously fucked up shit for no good reason. They definitely win the award for "Most Fucked-up Move I've Ever Sat Through" with that one, but then again, I never made it the whole way through August Underground Mordem, which is right up there.

Dead Girl is pretty fucked up, but it's not even in the same league as those two.
