I was ready to shoot the tv after last nights ranger game.

Elli 04-21-2011 06:05 PM

I have been disappointed by my Canuckleheads soooo many times. Hell, during my Grad Cruise we were all crammed into the back room of the boat, watching them lose a heartbreaker.

I don't mean people that like to watch sports here and there. I was talking about the true "Sportsfan" that watches probably 20+ hours a week of Sports on television, puts their favourite team logos all over their car and sits around at the bar with his buddies having in-depth debates about how their favourite team ("we") is doing or going to do.

Whenever I come across this social disaster situation I always laughingly call them "Sportsfan" as a proper noun. You know the type.

Curious. Do you feel the same way toward people who do this with TV shows? there are plenty of people out there who watch 20+ hours of TV per week and talk about their favorite shows with other people or spend time online looking up info about their favorite shows?

What about people who play video games 20+ hours per week.

Just curious if your feelings are aimed mostly at sports fans or if it goes wider than that.

BTW I agree with you about the people who talk about teams to no end. I am fan of sports and have teams I like and will sometimes discuss the team with other friends/fans, but I'm not one of those guys who follows every move of the team. And anytime I hear someone say "we" or "our" when referring to the team they like I always think of Seinfeld when he says he doesn't understand how people will go to a game and afterwards say, "We won." No, he tells them, they won, you watched.

Canucks are asleep at home tonight.

Getting blown out yet again 5-zip,man it's embarrassing to watch them fall apart but I wouldn't expect anything else .I'm always hopeful but I'm used to it after 40 years

Tempest 04-21-2011 09:07 PM

Where's that guy that was going on about how the Canucks were such a different team now when I was talking about their history of choking.

Q. Is it a case of the Canucks choking or is it a case of the Blackhawks having gotten their heads out of their asses and are now playing at the level they are meant to play at? I mean, Chicago has a core of great playmakers and snipers, as well as several guys that can take and give a hit.

Personally I think it's a bit of both. I don't think the Canucks were quite ready for the real Blackhawks to show up in game 4, and still weren't adjusted enough for them in game 5. (maybe they didn't think the change in the Blackhawks's game would last beyond the one game?)

Either way, this is now a series. If Chicago wins game 6 back in their home arena Sunday night then game 7 could very well be the "actual" Stanley cup game of these playoffs.

The winning goal in that Mtl-Boston game last night was offside. Anyone else catch that?

I had a feeling the Bruins were going to find a way to win that one regardless, but I'm surprised no habs fans are in here yelling about that last goal.

What usually happens with the Canucks when they're playing well is that they get ahead of the other team in a series.. The other team steps up their game.. The Canucks fall apart and can't adjust. Time and again that's what happens.

Ha, all you guys have Philly winning the cup when they might not even make it past Buffalo.

Sabres are looking gooood in tonight's game so far. 3-0 going into the 2nd.

CDSmith 04-22-2011 07:30 PM

And there it is, Sabres score in OT, win 4-3

and take a 3-2 series lead over the "Stanely Cup Champions-to-be" Flyers.

CDSmith 04-23-2011 12:09 PM

Tampa Bay Lightning absolutely SLAUGHTERS the Penguins in today's early game 8-2. What a trouncing.

In other news there was the USA vs CAN semi-final at the IIHF Under-18 World Hockey Tournament in Germany today.
USA was up 4-2 late in the 3rd when Canada pulled their goalie and scored making it 4-3. Okay, no biggie, right? Well, the USA took a penalty with just over 2 mins left in the game, team Canada again pulls their goalie making it a six-on-four scenario, and with just over a minute to go in the game THEY SCORE and tie it up 4-4.

It really looked as though Canada was going to pull it off, but a few minutes into the four-on-four ten minute OT period, after a couple of really good scoring chances for Canada the USA scored on their next rush down the ice (nice looking goal btw) and won it 5-4.

USA will play for Gold, against Sweden I believe.

Great game though. Some of these kids will be among the next wave of NHL recruits in the next few years.

CDSmith 04-23-2011 03:14 PM

Rangers are GONE.

falling 3-1 to the Caps, who take the series 4 games to 1.

Awesome goal by Ovetchkin.

CDSmith 04-24-2011 07:54 PM

CHICAGO WINS!

Series going to game 7.

This is terrible for Vancouver! can't believe they haven't closed them out yet. And now it is all square. Bad news for the number 1 team in the whole league.

It looks like the underdogs are going to take some beating this season, just like last year.

GTS Mark 04-25-2011 04:11 PM

Some amazing hockey going on right now thats for sure! Unfortunately my team's not apart of it :(

Spunky 04-25-2011 04:34 PM

THAT's going to be a great game to watch too. Tomorrow night is going to be insane for hockey.

Tampa Bay Lightning is close to knocking the Penguins out of the playoffs right now, btw.

CDSmith 04-25-2011 07:00 PM

Wups, I had it backwards, it was the Pens who had the chance to knock TB out tonight, but they didn't. That's another series going to a game 7.

Game 7 in the playoffs is the best hockey in the world. No matter which two teams are playing.

SJ-LA Kings game is just starting, SJ can put the Kings out of their misery tonight.

Kings are OUT!

Tonight is going to be huge! 2 game sevens and Boston with a chance to KO the Habs :)

undersoul 04-26-2011 08:20 AM

some exciting game 7s on tap!

Si 04-26-2011 08:27 AM

My predictions for tonights winners.

Bruins by 1 goal in regulation or an overtime winner for Montreal (can't choose which one)
Flyers by 2 goals in regulation
Blackhawks by 1 goal in regulation.

I don't generally like making predictions on games, but for the sake of argument I'll say this:

Montreal wins by 1, ties up series. (Montrealers then have to wait another few days before they can burn cars and loot shops)
Sabres win by 2 in an upset over the Flyers (As much as I like the Flyers I just have a feeling they're not going to make it this year)
Chicago wins by 2 (by one + an empty-netter)

Now I've probably jinxed it, ha.

I kinda hope Montreal do win, be interesting to see what would happen in Boston tomorrow night. No day off! It will be straight back to Boston another game 7.

I was going to say the 3 Bs (Boston, Buffalo, Blackharks) could win, But I want Flyers to go through. They didn't excactly make it easy on themselves last year. I am hoping they will pull through again.

Far-L 04-26-2011 03:00 PM

Pens last game looked like they were mostly dosed with barbituates or something... hard to watch.

I hope they catch a fire... because not going to catch Crosby on the ice...

_Richard_ 04-26-2011 03:08 PM

wootz this game we're going to be making big hits to the head on the boards, playing free of fear of any sort of penalties

alls fair right?

Adam X 04-26-2011 03:17 PM

what a win for the series, killer shot thornton.. Go Sharks!

CDSmith 04-26-2011 08:55 PM

Nice win for Mtl. Game 7 should be terrific.

The Flyers-Sabres game by comparison looked like a regular season game. I'd turn it to there and it seemed slow at a lot of times, whereas the Mtl-Boston game was way intense, end-to-end action, all players playing like their lives depended on it. The difference in intensity between the two games was significant. Nice series win for the Flyers though.

CDSmith 04-26-2011 10:08 PM

And by the skin of thier collective asses....

Canucks win the series. Blackhawks - OUT

Who's next for them, Tampa?

spunky99 04-26-2011 10:10 PM

WarChild 04-26-2011 10:18 PM

Ugh. Now I have to put up with at least one more series of the collective emotional ups and downs of some of the most retarded sportsfans in history.

Mutt 04-27-2011 01:55 AM

Sabres ran out of gas and lost to the better team :(

If the Flyers had a decent goalie they'd be legit contenders - Pronger is back.

Both the Bruins and Canadiens are pretenders - think Washington is as well. Tampa and Pittsburgh aren't good enough.

Hoping for a Canucks vs Detroit Western final and Philly vs Bruins in the East.

Ok you're actually BRAGGING? The team with the best record in the entire NHL blows a 3-0 series lead over a 8 seed and has to win a game 7 in OT to advance? And you're bragging? If Nashville doesn't beat you Detroit or San Jose sure will.

herbalot 04-27-2011 04:05 AM

Blackcocks? Nope. Vancouver Canucks FTW.
