Well got that totally wrong!

Except the flyers game, only one goal out :)

Definately looked like a regular game for them, was almost a walkover! Sabres didn't even turn up last night :1orglaugh

Glad to see the Canucks go through but didn't think they would do it.

And 2 more game 7s tonight should be excellent! :thumbsup

CDSmith 04-27-2011 10:20 AM

Vancouver needs to show their dominance in the next series, because there's not much to brag about them so far. As I said, "by the skin of their asses" did they make it past Chicago.

It was quite an entertaining series though. Props to the Blackhawks for making it a series and not going out in a 4 straight sweep like lambs. The comback to force a game 7 was great to watch.

Two more game 7's tonight, my brain is going to be on hockey overload. :D

Which NHL hockey arena sells the most food per season...?

A - Carolina Hurricanes RBC Centre

(but not now, since they um, didn't make the playoffs)

Excellent! SEE YA Montreal! :1orglaugh

Didn't expect Tampa to go through, wanted them to but damn! what a close game that one was :)

Guessing:

Flyers Vs Washington Eastern Final
Vancouver Vs Detroit Western Final

Flyers Vs Vancouver final.

Maybe being too hopeful on Vancouver making it all the way. But as long as the Flyers get there I will be happy :)

Far-L 04-28-2011 11:38 AM

I predict Capitals will take Lightning... but it will be interesting to see if Stamkos/Ovie will step up with the goal scoring that they should be delivering.

CDSmith 04-30-2011 01:54 PM

Interesting results in round 2 so far. SJ Sharks hand the Wings their first loss of the playoffs.
TB Lightning take game 1 over the Caps 4-2.
There could be some unexpected outcomes in this round. :D

Bruins currently schooling the Flyers 5-2 at the end of the 2nd. Game ain't over yet of course, but Boston is looking pretty good so far. I think most were expecting the Flyers to cruise through this round. I can assure those who said the Bruins are "pretenders"... they aren't.

Si 04-30-2011 05:54 PM

Bad result for the Flyers

Definately need a new goaltender next season I reckon.

CDSmith 05-01-2011 04:42 PM

Wow, I expected the SJ-Detroit series to be good, but the Sharks are really schooling the Wings so far. And after Detroit swept the Coyotes in their series 4-0. I guess the time they had off while waiting for round 2 to start was too much? They're getting owned.

Vancouver-Nashville --- You Canucks fans are pretty quiet lately. :D
Didn't expect Nashville to put up a fight?

Tampa Bay are having their way with the Caps so far. Interesting.

Boston - Philly --- Bruins definitely have the edge in goaltending. Enjoyable series so far.

Si 05-02-2011 08:31 AM

Game 2 of Boston / Flyers tonight should be interesting!

Could pretty much put the nail in the Philly coffin if they lose :(

Adam X 05-02-2011 09:55 AM

I'll be happier when the sharks go 3-0 on the wings.. til then... great games..

CDSmith 05-03-2011 03:43 PM

Boston up 2-0 on the Flyers. Is philly a sucker for punishment? They seem to set themselves up for these insane comebacks lately (in recent years).

I can't believe how the Sharks are dominating the Wings.

Canucks fans are still pretty damn quiet lately. :D

CDSmith 05-04-2011 09:51 PM

Where the hell are all the hockey fans?????

How 'bot them Tampa Bay Lghtning?

SJ Sharks dominating the wings... no love? Come on people.

CDSmith 05-04-2011 09:52 PM

Seriosly, if you're not watching hockey,

you are STUPID.

CDSmith 05-04-2011 10:21 PM

TB 5, Washington Caps 3.... TB sweeps series 4-0. Does no one but me find this incredible?

Bos 5, Phi 1.... Bruins lead series 3-0. NO comment... as is obvious from Philly fans as well as BOSTON fans. *I* however knew Boston was going to do good things this year. Did you?

SJ 4, Det 3.... SJ leads series 3-0. Did no one else seriously see this coming? I have to admit I didn't. I thought the Wings would put up more of a fight and make it a 7 game series, but SJ is simply dominating them. I forsee a 4 game sweep here.

spunky99 05-04-2011 10:50 PM

the tampa winning is surprising, washington definitely needs to change the team and coaching staff up.

surprised to see san jose 3 up on detroit.. maybe the long break detroit got hurt them.

I forsee big changes coming in Washington for sure. The Caps just derailed themselves with all kinds of fail, a new coach probably won't be enough to fix it.

Tampa seems to have a surprisingly decent hockey crowd at every one of their home games. Some people I know in areas like there and in the SF Bay area have told me that "No one watches hockey here, no one talks about it or knows about it at all"... Which kind of baffles me because then who are all these thousands of fans showing up at all the home games? I'm pretty sure they don't fly in 15-18 thousand Canadians every game so their arenas look full! :1orglaugh

That crowd did look pretty stoked. Just wait, if they win more games in round 3 (and I think they will) that arena will shake, rattle and roll like thunder, not Lightning.

CDSmith 05-06-2011 07:44 PM

Bye bye Philly.

Boston moves on to conference final for the first time since '92 I believe. Seriously, how many here forsaw the Bruins eliminating the Flyers?

Detroit finally shows some life and makes it a 3-1 series rather than a sweep. (Although their first goal tonight was offside and shouldn't have counted)

The record for the largest crowd for a playoff game belongs to the Lightning.

I didn't :(

Oh well, there is always next year! I think they need to work on Bobrovsky more and stop fucking around with the goaltending. Or maybe even get a new one. It cost them this year.

Now they are out there is only one team I want to win, The Canucks :thumbsup

I'm not sure the Canucks have the chutspa to win the cup this year. Yes, everyone's hung up on their regular season final numbers, but that's over now. These are the playoffs, and a lot of people seem to not understand that in the NHL playoffs it's anybody's trophy, not just the team that finished in 1st.

Those saying the Eastern Conf. teams are weak, posers, pretenders whatever, and don't stand a chance etc, are just plain wrong. In fact, I think either Tampa Bay or Boston are going to win it all this year. Tampa sure looked solid in last night's game.

Lastly, is it just me or were there a lot more hockey fans on GFY 5 years ago?

Yeah I know they might not have what it takes to do it, but I am hoping they can. Been a while since a Canadian team won it. Last team was Montreal aswell which sucks (hate them habs!) So I'm just backing the Canadian team to (hopefully) win.

I reckon the Boston / Tampa series is going to be great though! Hard to tell who is going to win that one.

And then in the west you have 2 teams who had almost identical series.

Vancouver were winning 3-0 against the hawks, went all the way to game 7

San Jose were winning 3-0 against Detroit, also went all the way to game 7.

Going to be an interesting road to the final that's for sure! :)

I used to do that, back the Canadian team simply because they were Canadian. Trouble with that is most of the players on every other team are also Canadian. So these days I decide who I'm going to root for based on a slightly different criteria. Like who is playing with the kind of heart that they deserve it, for one.

My one weakness is cheering for teams that have a Winnipeg connection (like the Blackhawks with Toews and Sharp both being from here), or a strong connection to our old Jets (such as the Ducks who have a few former Jets including Teamu Selanne and Randy Carlyle).

Other than that it's all in who looks good and who looks like they want/deserve it the most. Right now I'm torn between Boston and Tampa, both have shown heart in these playoffs and a huge will to win. Whereas Vancouver hasn't lived up to their hype and are just barely squeaking by so far. Their series with SJ is going to be a good one though, I can feel it.

Mutt 05-16-2011 07:31 AM

First round was the greatest first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs I've ever seen. First round is usually the best round of the playoffs.

2nd round wasn't great - the last 2 games of the Sharks/Redwings saved it. Game 6 was a memorable hockey game.

Tampa/Boston first game sucked. Last night's Canucks/Sharks game reminded me of an average middle of the season game. I hope both series pick up. I think both first games are indicative of what we're going to see - Tampa vs Canucks final. As much as that would be a horrible matchup for the NHL business/ratings wise it would be a good final.

This is true! most of them are Canadian, but it would be nice for a Canadian based to win for a change :)

You saying about the Jets, you never know you might have them back next season :winkwink:

I would classify it as a basketball match the game last night, wasn't worth watching for the first 40 minutes. The 3rd period I thought was great though!

Tampa Vs Boston game 2 tomorrow! should be interesting :)

Atlanta Thrashers are looking like the more likely of our options at this point.

Will be nice to have the Jets back, if it happens.

I guess I'm not really a loyal Canadian team fan. I used to like Montreal as a kid, still do to a degree, and to a lesser degree liked the Leafs (esp during the Sittler years). But my fav teams through the 70's and 80's were the Flyers, Bruins, Penguins mostly. And in the WHA the Jets of course. Once they and the others joined the NHL well, I was never much of a fan of Edmo or Calgary. Never was a Vancouver fan, and certainly wasn't a Nordiques fan either.

So I guess what I'm saying is that to me it really doesn't matter if it's a Canadian-based team that wins. Unless we get the Jets back of course, then all bets are off.

Elli 05-16-2011 11:08 AM

It sure would be nice if Luongo started playing for the Canucks and not the Sharks.
