No hockey on tonight. I'm having withdrawals.

CDSmith 05-26-2011 01:17 PM

Boston - Tampa going to game 7. This should be good.

Not one comment about the Canucks making it to the final? I find that amazing if not sad.

Where be all the Vancouver fans? ha

We're still all in shock...

Adam X 05-26-2011 02:13 PM

cant believe the sharks gave the tie goal with 13 seconds.. then blow it in 2OT
they just keep inching closer to the cup but damn... meant to be for canucks this time.. but Bruins are on a hot streak.

Far-L 05-26-2011 02:50 PM

Bruins need to be put down like the rabid dogs they are but they are looking sort of possessed. Add some ibex horns to Chara and he would look like a devil demon denizen of hell.

Nothing amuses me quite so much as seeing St. Louis and Chara next to each other...

At the end of the day though the genetic experiment known as the Sedin's may prove that mutations in hockey are fodder for an X-men sequel.

so.... :)

Im not shocked. As I stated in this thread https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1018269 . The Canucks would be playing Philly or Boston in the finals. Its a shame Philly had to play without Pronger.

So right back at you. My POINT at the time was still valid. There was ZERO point in bragging AT THAT TIME. So don't come here with your monday morning QB shit. Brag if/when they win the cup.

Mutt 05-27-2011 09:55 PM

The Bruins make it back to the Stanley Cup Final after 21 years in exile. I think Tampa was a little better but Thomas was the difference.

Vancouver will be a pretty big favorite, I'm not sure how the Bruins will measure up against Vancouver, other than goal I think the Canucks have an edge. Something makes me think the Canucks will figure out a way to avoid winning a Cup.

CDSmith 05-29-2011 08:39 PM

I get the sense that Vancouverites are quiet because they really don't want to go out on a limb and put it out there that their team IS without a doubt going to win it...like there's more doubt there than there should be.

Can't say I blame them.

Boston has been playing like they're hungry, and want it badly. I won't be so bold as to say who'll win either, but I WILL say this.... it's going to be a hell of a good cup series. I can feel it.

Boston's an original six team, I wouldn't feel at all bad if they won it all. Of course it would also be nice to have a Canadian-based team win, but the sad truth for me is I'm just not that much of a Canucks fan. Can't really say why. I think my stock in them went down back around the time of the Bertuzzi hit causing the head injury fiasco thing.

This day in history: MAY 31st 2011

That is the day THE NHL RETURNED TO WINNIPEG.

Not sure what they're going to be called but we're back.

SGS 05-31-2011 12:36 PM

Saw the bruins play pre season in Belfast. HUGE hockey fans here.

Si 05-31-2011 02:22 PM

1 day 'til puck drop :)

Far-L 05-31-2011 02:41 PM

Sedin's are tough but still must be protected from that gargantuan behemoth mutant giant Chara. Should be a good series though... two people that play as one against one person the size of two... which mutant power will prevail?

I only get excited about Original 6 teams when they play against each other... but with Vancouver/Boston there does seem to be a pretty strong difference between the western and eastern styles of play imo on a macro level; it is sort of finesse vs. physicality so that should be fun to see.

Holly Lez! 05-31-2011 02:41 PM

Actually the Bruins haven't been there since 1990.. I was still living in Boston and remembered how nuts the city went.. just like it is now! Exciting!

CDSmith 06-01-2011 10:58 AM

It's been what, 39 years since Boston won the cup?
And for Vancouver it's been.... never?

Oh this is going to be sweet to watch. And enjoy it while you can, everyone, because next year the new team from WINNIPEG is going to own the cup in their inaugural year. :D

funny coincidence..

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that last night was probably the biggest goal of Raffi Torres's career.

3 more wins and Canucks have their first ever cup.

Pseudonymous 06-02-2011 07:11 AM

Canucks best D looks to be injured, hope for some good news regarding it.

Hopefully they looked good and in the third really started to take it to the bruins.

Great start to the final :) Game #2 Saturday!

haha yup, crazy set up by kesler

Any predictions?

I think this might get done in 6 games but I'm not inclined to say who takes it just yet. It looks like it's Vancouver's cup to lose at this point but I wouldn't count Boston out, because they're definitely not a team to turn your back on (as in dismiss) because they will bite you in the ass.

I'd love to see it go to a game 7, but I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to end earlier than that.

If that happens I'll be the happiest camper in the world. I love game 7 in the Stanley Cup final.

To me there's no better hockey than that. Except for the gold medal game of the Olympics, or... the final deciding game of the '72 summit series. :D

I can't believe how silent hockey fans on this board are. Boston's been hammering Vancouver for the last 2 games, what was it, 8-1 and then last night 4-0?

I was hoping the Bruins would make this a series, and oh wow did they ever. Game on.

_Richard_ 06-09-2011 08:29 AM

thomas was so effortless ;)

Ha ha.

Regarding last night's game, some pretty bad reffing going on at times, especially in the turd period, a non-call on Boston for too man men on the ice, and one of the worst penalty calls I've ever seen on one of the Sedin brothers for "tripping". Ugh.

But sadly I doubt the absence of that bad reffing would have greatly affected the outcome of the game. Canucks got whipped, period.

To be fair, that made up for the earlier penalty in the game on Marchand when Bieksa basically fell (or threw himself on the ice - that wouldn't shock me). Was pretty much the same thing.

amacontent 06-09-2011 10:53 AM

If the refs called a penalty every time a Vancouver Caschmuck dived or embelished they would be shorthanded the whole game. Vancouver is embarrassment to the NHL they way they dive and embelish.

The diving and embellishment that goes on is pretty sucky and pathetic, agreed.

Is it really all on the Canucks, or have a few Bruins players done it too?

key word here is "few"

Si 06-09-2011 11:24 AM

Hockey is turning into Football (soccer)

Diving and the fake high sticking is getting very lame and the refs can't seem to distinguish between the 2.

Seems to be going both ways, someone fakes a high stick and gets a penalty. Then someone actually gets tripped or a stick to the head and it goes unpunished.

What I don't get is this though, how can the teams play so much different in another stadium. It is almost as if they leave the teams at home when they travel.

I wouldn't say Vancouver done that much better in the first 2 games but they had an edge, then they go to Boston and turn into a different set of players altogether.

Doesn't make any sense!
