Nope. They have shown up at many conferences in the past few years, as well as had some dinners with key people in the industry. Do you know what happens at the business events? Fights? Confrontations? People in each other's faces?

Nothing.

That's right. Bro drinks. Nothing has happened, nor will ever happen. Everyone is the winner of a tough man contest on GFY or some other forums. When the same people are at a show they do absolutely nothing. This is how this industry has always been, and always will be.

:2 cents:

harvey 05-10-2011 06:38 PM

Not a surprise, predicted this almost 2 years ago (do I get a cookie? :( ) Anyway, if what I think (and already said) continues to be true, many people here should be ready to pack their belongings. Those who should have fought at that time didn't, and even thought some of them may still do it, they won't. Those who wanted to fight but didn't have the resources will be in a worst situation soon.

The good news is that for those that have resources AND a brain, this might be a blessing in disguise. Either way, the future of the industry will be very interesting one year from now.

Want another prediction? At least 50% of the big companies will disappear in less than 18 months. It's not magic, just using simple logic and bits of knowledge, the same I used to make my "magical" guesses.

And last but not least, those small time webmasters that have a commitment and a passion for what they do, those who are able to sacrifice things, take risks and work hard, those have a nice opportunity window they didn't have before. Probably none of them will get mega-rich, but the opportunity is out there and up for grabs :thumbsup

You have summed it up nicely.

Most people 24-36 months ago at shows said what has happened was coming. Many people cashed out and left this industry while they could. The consolidation of traffic and power players was started easily 36 months ago and just continued through the past few years.

Those who were teetering on their house of cards have either been bought out, sold out, or went out of business. You have a few still fighting to refuse going back to a paper hat, then a few players here and there.

For smaller niche players with a passion for their business will always remain. One, they have loyal customers who will always pay for their wares. Secondly, their production costs and overhead are much less. They are not looking to take over the world, and can continue making a decent living by U.S. standards working from their underwear. You will not get "rich" per se. But you will make much more than you would at most jobs without a degree.

Most BROgrams are now not worth promoting, and 80% of those from a few years back are ghost ships. Either the owner has sold out and moved on to other things, while milking that last bit from adult. Or they have went back to the real world of paper hats and just did not let others know about it.

The handful of power players left are being promoted by 90% of the affiliates. So it's no wonder most are not making any real money simply because of saturation. Lastly, you have a few power players controlling a HUGE chunk of adult traffic.

Most of those posting on GFY or industry boards I would bet are not even in this industry full time anymore if at all. Within another 12 months, most BROgrams and affiliates will be gone.

I'd estimate YouPorn generates 7 figs of profit per year, but a sale price of 8 figs could be possible. If I had to guess, I'd say the sale price was somewhere in the mid to high 7 figure range. Only Manwin and the other party know for sure.

Question, whats your take on .XXX rigth now? Just wondering.

Nathan 05-11-2011 01:55 AM

Roald, that fabien not me, in case you thought it was...

In case you do want my opinion, I hate .xxx! It's a money grab and will not help the industry. Who the backers of it are shows this clearly in my opinion. All the big domainers in adult are in bed with them.

The prices will be outrageous and completely unjustified! The argument that the domain will easily make you 60 usd more than a .com just because of what it offers is first of all of course irrelevant because .com gives you so many things .xxx does not, but also is a bad way of looking at it. Investing in .com real-estate is 10% as expensive. Will .xxx ever benefit me 10 times over a .com? Of course not.

My concern is also really not that owning a few .xxx domains is good or not. Its simply about our trademarks and brands and their protection. I do not like extorshion and the way icm is setting this up is just that in my opinion. Sadly in business this seems more or less legal. If icm would let us bulk register domains for a LOW few (like 100usd for all of them, or 5usd or so for single ones -- one time fees) to BLOCK them, including the standard typos, I would be all fine with this, but obviously they won't want to since this is #1 money makerfor them.
