I've had other models flake and you just get to realize that it's part of doing the business. It sucks bigtime and kill fees are the worst.

I'm not so sure dogging on a model is effective, but it certainly keeps everyone aware of the possibility. Unfortunately, all she has to do is show up a few times in the future and your history with her becomes irrelevant. Reliability in models is not always necessary for photographers, just reliability on the day they are with you.

She's cute, I'm sure she won't have problems with bookings. Maybe she's winding down her career already and just doesn't give a shit anymore. She has shot a lot in the past 6 months. Could be a possibility.

Correct. If you have been in this business awhile, while it sucks, you learn to just accept it. There are ways to cut down on some of it, but there will always be the occasional skeezer that flakes out for whatever the reason.

* Didn't set alarm (boyfriend over)
* Stomach flu (was out drinking hard last night)
* Car broke down, didn't have gas, ride bailed, etc..
* Got lost (slept in)

A photographer I work with down in Florida says he tosses a coin before every shoot to see if the model shows. LOL Part of the biz, just gotta cope with it. Kill fee sucks tho, I would've hit up the agent/agency for that.

I don't understand why you would need to pay a $600.00 kill fee. The agent was the person who cancelled the shoot....and that requires you to pay $600.00? What exactly is the purpose of paying the fee? What did you get in return from her? Absolutely nothing but a cancelled shoot. A shoot that wasn't even cancelled by you.

I've been shooting for 6 years now and have shot over 250 models and a kill fee is something that has never been discussed. I wouldn't care if the agent cancelled, the model cancelled or even if I cancelled a shoot, I ain't paying shit because of a cancellation. I do work with very amateur girls so perhaps there is a difference there but it still seems very odd to me that you would be required to pay because of a shoot that was cancelled by her agent. Perhaps, you are the one that should be getting paid for wasting your time by setting up a shoot for a model that wasn't even going to show up.

The kill fee was probably for the house rented for the shoot, those are expensive homes Dean rents and you can't just say 'oh the house i agreed to rent for 700 dollars, won't be needing it, model flaked' - plus he may have paid his assistant and the makeup artist a kill fee.

BTW, who was Tiffany's agent in this instance? I would think that they would be liable for the kill fee or would make it up to Dean somehow, since agents collect kill fees for model's and themselves when projects are cancelled by the company/photographer that tried to book the model.

Finally, if you think Eddie really has a law "suite" (sic) filed against FTV/Rob, then see if Eddie can provide us with a case number, so that we can all see how "great" his suite is going. <crickets>
