Oh sorry, I posted an old LFA vs GTR 1/4 mile shoot out.

The GTR now destroys the LFA.

For less than a third of the price.

.

What I meant by getting the car for free is it takes the price tag out of the equation and lets the person choose their favorite based solely on the merits of the car. The LFA is very pricey and I agree you can get the same performance from a GTR at a fraction of the cost but that doesn't make the LFA a bad car.

I don't find fault in a car because of its price. I look at its build. performance and aesthetics.
I wouldn't say an LFA sucks because I can get a GTR for far less or a Veyron sucks because I can get 3 or 4 other supercars for the same price or a vintage Ferrari 250 GTO sucks because I could get a Veyron and a Lear Jet and a house for the same price :)

So if you take money out of the equation my feeling is similar to what NetHorse says....

I understood what you meant, and frankly it's generalizing. You are using your own fanboy outlook to make a strawman argument.

As for what Nethorse says... Neither one of you have been in the car. So that takes any credence out of the equation. But feel free to enjoy a car that "Sounds" like a racecar. Considering they made tubes to focus the sound inside the cockpit for the "3d" type of exahust noise. Well worth the 400,000.00 dollars! /sarcasm

The only reason I haven't been in an LFA is because my 6' 7" frame wouldn't fit in it. I doubt it could even be modified enough to allow me to drive it. I might be able to ride as a passenger if I sit in the fetal position. I was however offered a chance to sit in one.

Given the fact that I haven't actually sat or ridden in the ones I've seen, photographed and watch being driven takes away any credence as to my opinion, I'd like to hear about your experience being in the car. Otherwise, by your own admission you don't have any credence either.

So you haven't been in it, thus negating your fanboy posting generalizing how awesome the car is against the GTR.

Conversely, me not being it detracts from my argument that it's not that awesome for 400k. Wait... What? I need to be in a car to compare performance stats with how much the car is worth? What world do you live in?

My premise has not changed, for the money, the GTR is a better car. I don't need to sit in the LFA to prove that. While your whole argument is because it "SOUNDS" like a race car and it doesn't have the electronics doo dads the GTR has it's worth the 400k. Ummmm, did you miss the part where everything is LCD on the LFA? Fanbois always make me laugh, you get so emotionally wrapped in whatever particular fetish you're in to.

Don't get me wrong, I only laugh cause I've seen it in myself. That's why I can tear apart your whole argument rather easily.

Can't believe two grown adults are arguing like two Vietnamese high school freshman about which rice burner is better. I'm sure its just a matter of time before someone argues that the rear wing is 10X too small and that it needs 4" exhaust tips and 12" sub woofers.

Internetz is serious bizdness.

I already said in my previous posts that the GTR is probably thee best car in its price range except you might have to fight a few Corvette owners for the title.

My whole point was the LFA is not a bad car just because it is over priced. I say if you take the price out of the equation and just compare the LFA and GTR on every point from stats, aesthetics, driving experience and so on the LFA is the superior car.

Since we are talking about two different perspectives and even though I've agreed with yours, you can't make one post without mentioning cost or fanboy so I'm done with this discussion.

BTW you clearly contradict yourself in the quote in this post :winkwink:

What? The LFA is not a bad car? You've been particularly nutting yourself about how awesome the LFA is over any other car ever made. Your whole argument is based on your fanboy appreciation of the LFA, "If you gave the car away", who the Hell would come up with that argument? When the whole premise is that the car is not worth the 400k. Where did you learn to debate?

I'm not looking at it from a different perspective. I'm looking at it from the facts. For the less than a third of the price, the GTR is a better car, in any performance stats. You keep mistaking my points as an emotional response, which is understandable due to you reacting in that manner.

The GTR doesn't even look like an exotic and it sounds like a Dyson vacuum cleaner.
It does have some impressive performance however.

The LFA is sleek and exotic. It will turn heads wherever it goes. The sound it makes is unmistakably exotic. I don't know how the performance stats compare between the two but I'm sure you'd have to take it to the track with a professional driver to find the difference.

Driving the LFA would be a much more exhilarating experience.

They stole the idea from Mercedes. I have cooled seats in my E55amg

Only one problem with that, the LFA has a very storied and rich heritage. Before Toyota decided to badge it as a Lexus, it was known to the world as the Toyota Supra. The frame/motor from the Supra has also been the basis of the Lexus GS series, as well as the SC series.

All these cars are just plain boring, the times the GTR does are seriously impressive, but it just seems like the car is too *easy*.

There is nothing like a car that is overpowered and an absolute handful. Everything seems to be wrapped in a big pillow these days :(

That is a very expensive price. Few people can afford it.

Okay, probably not the best perspective, but I am pretty sure I understand the appeal of both cars.

I'll compare this to the current car and the last car I had, both are pretty obtainable for most people...

My 08 WRX wagon vs my 02 Camaro SS. Stock to stock, totally different cars. The WRX has a smaller motor, AWD, a bunch of traction control shit, handles great and new was a little cheaper than the Camaro. Let's call this the poor man's GT-R.

The Camaro however, big motor (ended up putting a 550bhp motor into it), RWD, no traction control to speak of, handled decently unless you put power to it, and I had over 50k into the fucking thing and I bought it used.

From a daily standpoint, I am glad I ditched the Camaro for the WRX. It's still a fun car to drive every day. I can live with it. I know it will start, it will go, and the chances of it shooting a pushrod out the motor isn't very high. It goes around corners better than most of the stuff I see daily, it's pretty quick in a straight line, and I can beat most anything through an intersection.

From a "fuck that was fun" standpoint, I miss the shit out of the Camaro and I'm excited to build another one. I could get in that car, scare the fuck out of any passenger I had, scared the fuck out of cars next to me, it got a ton of compliments and a ton of questions and sounded like the world was coming to an end even just tooling around town. Half the time I thought I was going to die when I pressed the loud pedal because the car was just that powerful and unrefined.

How this relates?

The people who buy the LFA are buying it because they want to be terrified. They likely aren't concerned with paper numbers, they just want the shit scared out of them by a V10 RWD super car. The fact that it's out of the price range of most people isn't a bad deal either.

The people who buy the GT-R have seen the Nurburgring youtube video a billion times, look at all the numbers on paper and realize "Hey I can afford that and on paper it's fucking faster than a Saturn-V rocket" and Nissan was smart enough to put so many computers in it, basically anyone CAN drive fast.

They are two totally different cars in two totally different ranges made for two totally different reasons.

It's like the people who compare the Z06 to the Mustang GT or Cobra or GT500. They're totally different fucking cars.

I don't understand why everyone is comparing everything to the GT-R. I know a couple Mustangs that started out as 1500 dollar clapped out rollers that would walk the shit out of a GT-R in the real world... but at the end of the day they still spent 500x what the car is worth to make it faster than a car that just came that way and is way more expensive.

Bike 08-18-2011 03:31 AM

Comparing a GT-R to a LF-A is funny :D

I had a LFA in front of me on the Nordschleife a few weeks ago! It's a very rare car, even at the Ring.

Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition Breaks Lap Record at the ?Ring

" Everyone wants the single lap record at the Nurburgring. Toyota has just claimed a great time in their EV racecar and Kawasaki took the motorcycle record in the last two weeks. Now we have proof of the Lexus LFA setting the record for production cars.Driven by Akira Iida, the Lexus LFA clocked in a time of 7:14.64 on the famed German race track. The record, set on August 31st, came from a special Nurburgring Edition of the sports car of which only 50 units will be produced. "
