Poorly handled by the cop. Should have called the attention of the owner verbally.. Then informed the owner of why he was there and then asked to have the dog held so he would approach and talk. Simple and easy.

Poor training and poor human interaction skills could have turned this into something bad.

The cop was lying about the 911 hang-up call to justify snooping around to see if you were growing weed or whatever.

I hate cops with a passion, but put yourself in his shoes. He's responding to a 911 call, doesn't know if you own the house or if you just hacked up the family inside, and your dog rushes him.

Can't say he would be justified in shooting the dog, but I can see how he may pull the trigger if he thought he was at risk. I'd rather be a cop with a dead dog on my hands instead of a cop with a chunk of my leg missing.

So I have to ask, why is the cop walking up to your house? Where did he park? Why didn't he just drive right up to your house. Then you and your dogs would have seen him coming and nobody would have been startled.

It doesn't make sense that he parks a ways away and then hikes up to your house. Cops are trained to use their cars as cover so they don't volunteer to leave them behind if it can be avoided.

Anyway, I live on a hill there is stairs that come up the hill and a washed up dirt road out back accessible with 4wd. You HAVE to park aways away and HIKE up to my house. We carry our groceries up and our garbage down. Our car was parked at the bottom until I blew the motor last week and sold it off the side of the road for scrap, but that is another interesting story indeed. It involves a jeep, a car dolly, a junkyard, and a stable of hoes. You wouldn't believe that story either.
