Truecrypt up your important files, family pics and put them somewhere else to be safe.

And as others have said it's almost certainly someone close by who knew what you had to steal.

I know you were not home....but a gun is best. If you are home and someone breaks in, it only takes once and people are MUCH less likely to ever break into your place again. Otherwise, I would suggest a alarm.

As for securing your house, well, these things happen. I have a security system and my guns, but if I'm away it's still not a 100% guarantee that I won't get robbed.

External HD for backups here, plus everything I've ever done on the web since '98 is backed up on a couple of remote servers as well as on DVD.

Home security, I had Medico deadbolts installed (approx $500 apiece), these are the most badass locks on the market I could find. They come with the wraparound kickplate on each door, they are as tamperproof as it gets I'm told. I have alarm stickers on each entry door but no actual alarm system. :D

I used to have a fairly large dog on the premises, he passed away about 4 years ago now, but there is still visible evidence that there "may" be a dog present... as in, his dog house still remains in the back yard.

In the 20-odd years I've been here my home has never had a break-in. Never suffered data loss due to no backups either.


Lastly, thieves suck. I'd have had no problem if you had of said your wife or son woke up, went to the gun locker and then shot the assholes dead. Now that would have been a happy ending to the story.

yeah the whole thing has really set me back business and money wise....because of this i will be making some good deals this month
