The ones that actually understand how affiliate marketing works don't give a shit unless it's truly out of hand... There's been plenty of discussions on this board about affiliates cropping pics/thumbs for their blog posts in order to create the most enticing image they can... Usually the program owner finally "gets it" and changes their TOS.... But the majority of those that run these programs don't have a fucking clue about real promotion and what affiliates do.... So they put in stupid shit and loose traffic and sales because of it.

So??? Why do so many people in this business not even understand it.. The guys out there searching for a porn chick, jerking off to her, becoming "obsessed" about her and a big fan, don't give a shit if she changes names and sites 50 times.. They just want more content of HER.. They want to see the couple hardcore sets of some chick that comes off as all innocent.. They want to suck up every bit of content about HER... The porn guys sit on forums sharing all the info they can on a girl, sharing all the pics they find. They know she's done hardcore and that content is shared among them and links to her latest site is posted as well. Too many ppl in this biz operate in some sort of mental bubble.

Those fans will figure it out and find her pics regardless of if an affiliate acknowledges her past personas or not. And for all those "porn guys" who know all the different names she's been under and trading her pics, there's a bunch of new fans just being exposed to her for the first time through the affiliate's marketing. Those new fans may not even want to know that Bryci once did hardcore as Tia. Yet you feel that since some people know about it, we should just consider it that everyone does. It's not like the rules are buried deep in a ridiculous T&C. They are made clear to affiliates immediately upon signing up for the program. Not to mention the fact that outside of this security blanket of thread, many people, including myself, are likely to view such rules as being indicative of a stand-up, quality program. Maybe they're a little too protective as Roald said, but I'll take that all day over a program that seems a little too lax.

Affiliate went out of his way to promote a program.

Program owner sent from a "legal" address to sound threatening. Threats continued and the "vibe" of the language read to me...

This program will be a massive pain in the ass going forward. Likely will keep a majority of the funds for some small, irrelevant reason.

Affiliate said "go fuck yourself".

An affiliate's role is to promote programs. So why is this one special that he was "going out of his way?"

As for the rest of this, those of us showing understand of the program's side regarding the performer's persona and previously used ones, as well as the nature of her current content versus past content....I know I don't, and I don't think any of the others are agreeing with the way the program handled the issue. No one here is defending the "threatening legal address" tactic, nor any of the other things the sponsor did (contacting 200 other webmasters, etc.). We're just saying there's logical reason for the sponsor not wanting the model's new persona (which is softcore) being promoted using anything that might reference her past personas and content (obviously hardcore).

Again, I don't think anyone is defending the unprofessional way the sponsor handled the issue. We're merely addressing the core issue itself.

All it does is tie the hands of affiliates to market to THEIR traffic and to cater to what THEIR traffic is looking for and thus results in lost sales for everyone. When it comes to marketing porn chicks, you market her.. Not the site. She could be on 10 different sites. You promote all of them under her "name".. Freeones for example is not a directory of porn sites. It's forum is not filled with porn site threads.. It's a directory of the girls. The vast majority of the threads are about a specific model.

As for the entire content drivel... If I have a site or section on a site that has content from a particular girl, it includes content from lots of sites... Some of the content will get the surfer interested in her.. Some other site (having "used" that other content indirectly) might end up closing the deal and getting the sale.. It's simply the way it is and if you think differently then you really don't understand porn marketing.

Marketing is about knowing your product, knowing the needs and wants of your target, matching your product with the proper target, and making a call to action. The method you speak of can best be described as throwing shit against the wall.

So, the shitty sponsor closed my account, and he STILL OWES me money...
