If he has 1GB+ of RAM (2GB is recommended, but not mandatory), and a compatible video card/chipset, then yes Win7 will run significantly faster than XP.

Win7 is much more polished than XP and much more efficient - provided your computer meets the prerequisites.

If you do not understand this ... then go get yourself a standard first generation netbook (atom single core processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and Intel 945 chipset) running XP, and then install Win7 on it, and you will see a significant performance boost.

Finally someone who doesn't suggest XP just to bump his postcount. XP is a piece of shiet software that should never have been on the market. Christ almighty I hate XP. 7 is much much better AND FASTER!

was curious about the people disagreeing here and did some reading

while xp was designed for 'older' types of computers, win7 is an os that utilizes a lot of the technology developed and introduced with vista

article mentioned new 'driver architecture' as well as more focus on enforcement of permissions for both users and applications, which would reflect with win7, that allows more stability and better security.

XP and strip it down to performance mode. 2 gig is the sweet spot, no more, no less and you will get the most out of it.

XP will be much faster.

XP, but what the hell is wrong with you? get some more RAM.

Both XP or Win 7 won't run well on 2GB. Even if you use 4, windows can't see all of it.

Spend a few bucks on more RAM(it's cheap), get 64 bit win7. It's 2012.

What do guys recommend for Acer one 250d netbook with 2 gig of ram? Something really lite and quick. I'm running xp on it.
