They are now at the point where there are so many people where they have to leave people out in an hour and are forced to pick and choose what they want to show with each person.
My wife at this point is really confused as to what the hell is happening, I have to pause the show to explain what is going on. Kind of sucks but I guess I dont blame her. There is SO much more to the story they are leaving out.

I haven't read the books and so far I seem to be doing okay following it, but I do admit that there are a ton of characters and it is getting crowded.
I saw a video from the Game of Thrones panel at Comic Con and they said that this season would cover the second book, but that the next three books all kind of take place at the same time so instead of having one season cover one book they are going to mash them all together and do all three books at the same time so the timeline stays correct.
It sounds like it could get confusing.
One thing I did that helped me a lot was that I DVR'd the whole season then I went back and watched the full first season again a couple of weeks before season 2 started. I can't believe how much detail and stuff I missed on the first viewing.
