One of the favourites for the gold medal, Spain, put in a terrible performance as they had Inigo Martinez sent off and lost 1-0 to Japan.

Craig Bellamy's first-half goal for Great Britain was not enough as they started their London 2012 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Senegal at Old Trafford.

Spain are out of the men's football tournament having lost their second successive game, 1-0 to Honduras. You have to feel sorry for Spain, because they playing well the final 20 minutes but football is a 90 minute game.

No European country will win the football final because it is the time players are traditionally starting to get back into the game ready for the new season which kicks off in a few weeks... saying that Team GB won tonight 3-1... still had the feel of it being played like a "Friendly" as they have only played a few competitive matches together.... unlike the South Americans.

Brazil or Uruguay will win this, I reckon.

Just got my tickets for the paralympics, various mens finals 100m including the chairs, plus chair basketball semis. Plus probably some goalball. All about a 10th of the price and supporting some atheletes that aren't earning thousands from sponsors already

Looks like no one's answered your question about "non-medal events". Most of the events do award Gold/Silver/Bronze, but there are some events that are considered "exhibition events", or Demonstrations. Some sports that start out as exhibition events end up as full-out Olympic sports. Sometimes not, though.

The winners do receive medals, which are smaller than the ones athletes win in the traditional Olympic events. But these are not counted in the athlete's country's medal count, as they're not "official"

He cited one tweet that read: "You let your dad down i hope you know that."

Daley's father died of brain cancer a year ago and the 18-year-old Olympian had hoped to win a medal "for myself and my dad."
