Aug 10 (Reuters) - U.S. regulators directed five of the country's biggest banks, including Bank of America Corp (BAC.N) and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N), to develop plans for staving off collapse if they faced serious problems, emphasizing that the banks could not count on government help.

The two-year-old program, which has been largely secret until now, is in addition to the "living wills" the banks crafted to help regulators dismantle them if they actually do fail. It shows how hard regulators are working to ensure that banks have plans for worst-case scenarios and can act rationally in times of distress.

Officials like Lehman Brothers former Chief Executive Dick Fuld have been criticized for having been too hesitant to take bold steps to solve their banks' problems during the financial crisis.

According to documents obtained by Reuters, the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency first directed five banks - which also include Citigroup Inc, (C.N), Morgan Stanley (MS.N) and JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N) - to come up with these "recovery plans" in May 2010.

They told banks to consider drastic efforts to prevent failure in times of distress, including selling off businesses, finding other funding sources if regular borrowing markets shut them out, and reducing risk. The plans must be feasible to execute within three to six months, and banks were to "make no assumption of extraordinary support from the public sector," according to the documents.

Spokespeople for the five banks declined to comment. The Federal Reserve also declined to comment.

It's not even about the government taking over. It's about natural disasters. It's about power grid failures. It's about food shortages (which are coming). It's about being prepared for all the things that have already happened over and over and over again in one place of the world or another.

When disaster strikes, whatever that disaster may be, those who ridicule the people who are prepared for it, even if that preparation is only slight, are going to be the ones dependent on the government that may not help them and the very people who they ridiculed for trying to be prepared.

To anyone who ridicules a prepper of any kind, let me ask you this one question: If your power grid went down right now, for whatever reason, and stayed down for just two weeks, how well would you get by for those two weeks? What if it was two months? Do you have enough food and water to last two weeks? Could you defend your home from others who are hungry or are looting?

I'm not into conspiracies, but I do worry about power grid failures from CME's. I have been watching solar flare activity and even NASA and the experts agree that we are going deeper into stronger than normal period of solar activity. Yes I know it's 11 year cycles but this max is more than most and we are not even fully in it yet. When the shit hits the fan I will be eating fresh fried eggs for breakfast every day while the rest of you guys forage for bugs to chew on.

This is all so pointless here lol, why even bother?

You are clearly the former.

I never said that. My point is what are you doing about them?

Choker, you can rest easy.
re: the current cycle, or Solar Cycle 24.

"NASA predicts that solar cycle 24 will peak in early or mid 2013 with about 59 sunspots. This would make it the least active cycle in the past one hundred years."

The reason for this thread was to get an insight into their thinking. As you see none have a coherent argument other than "Be scared." Not sure what we should be scared of though.

Conspiracies happen. A President was brought down by one. Or was that a scandal?

The other point was none of the pussies who know what they're scared, are doing fuck all about it that will work.

Natural Disasters that can be expected not included in the above.

That's well said there JC, the government wants us scared of Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Terrorists, whereas the conspiracy theorists say that all those things are an inside job, which the non-conspiracy types find even more scary :2 cents:

Go back and read about how many times the US Government has built up fears for you.
