Too bad because in Russia (post USSR) you can't. BTW is the post-communist EU something different to the other parts of EU like Western Germany, Spain?

i am not sure what you are trying to imply here but it's not that Russia is famous for its abstinent inhabitants.

when people want alcohol they will buy it - no matter where. the size of the store doesnt make a difference

Famous where? The Hollywood movies? Are the Czech or German people famous as abstinent inhabitants? Why did you say that? I really have no idea what you are trying to imply too. Want to know which country is ahead of the world? Here you go please. Note where is Russia and where are Czech Republic and Germany for example. Hope you'll find these stats useful.

P.S. We also had a methanol poisoning problem here in Russia back in 90's. This is why I did post to this thread. Nothing personal actually, just my reminiscences from the old past times when vodka was available in the street kiosks here too (I call it barbarian times).

as they say stats are for politicians...
you know while I am from second country when it comes to the alcohol consumption and now i am in first country (moldovia), when it comes to the alcohol consumption i still think that reality is a bit different...i would rather measure it by how many people die because of being alcoholics....
The stats how many people die because of being alcohlics doesnt speak good for russia. sorry, its not in wikipedia, but only in russian newspapers :1orglaugh...
Official consumptions is usuallly different then local consumption with homemade alcohol.

Raz 09-15-2012 01:12 PM

When the government says no, the bad guys will always find a way to provide. These people need to pick up a history book. :2 cents:

by my own eyes and being from EE, i would say that russians and ukrainans are leading the game when it comes to the alcohol....as i already said, official consumption means nothing in EE, the real consumption consists of bought alcohol and homemade alcohol, which is really difficult to measure it....

Actually, if you click "unrecorded" you'll find Russia at #5, way ahead of Germany and the Czech Republic, likewise if you click on 'spirits', where you'll find Russia at #6. So all that Wiki page says is that Russians aren't as keen on beer and wine as other countries, and that a vast amount of what Russians drink is bootleg.

It's not Hollywood that bans and restricts Vodka in Russia, it's Russian leaders. The last one being Medvedev, who "announced a war on alcohol [in 2009] saying he was shocked by the 'colossal' level of consumption."

"The average Russian drinks a litre and a half of pure alcohol every month, a habit that kills half a million people a year and is a major factor in population decline. An estimated 51% of production is on the black market, with factories running illegal night shifts and huge supplies of moonshine called samogon distilled in villages, where it acts as a second currency."

"Vodka ? both legal and illegal ? remains the chief killer in Russia, where it accounts for up to 70% of consumption, despite the rising popularity of beer and mixed drinks such as gin and tonic in cans."

"Alkashi ? alcoholics ? are still a common sight on Moscow streets."

you are a very sensitive person when it comes to your motherland, maybe take a deep breath sometimes, not everything is meant as attack.

ummm, I can give you beer with those numbers; and anyone that thinks this is an overreaction has never really paid much attention. I know Germany is terrible when it comes to knee-jerk reactions. I kind of expect it for the rest of Europe.

SZNY 09-15-2012 05:31 PM

Today it was mentioned on the Czech news that because of the prohibition the sales of hard liquor on a Friday evening was 700K euro less.

When a club, shop or supermarket still serves/sells hard liquor they can expect big fines and there are lot of active controls

Just so u know what 20%abv restricts

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol...Typical_levels

I can see why when its the bootleg. Ever wondered why bars might have two bottles or more of the same spirit sitting up in the optics? 1st bottle is for sober people, regulars and single shot drinkers, second bottle is for those already drinking.

1st one comes from the brewery that you have to pay them full dollar for, the second is the same branded bottle but filled with whatever cheap shit you can get your hands on. If you regularly drink somewhere, just have a look at which bottle they fill you up on. I used to work in a bar when I was a teenager seeing the manager filling up the optics with Tesco whiskey as they "had sent the wrong bottles" LOL
Brewery price £23 a bottle, tesco price £9 a bottle, bootlegger £4

Great opportunity for some organized crime. I'm pretty sure teencat posted this thread about 4 days ago.

k0nr4d 09-16-2012 03:52 AM

Poland just banned the sale of all alcohol imported from CZ with the exception of wine and beer.
