Jews, with a relative history of intellectualism actually have a proud atheist streak. Israel is more atheistic than America.. The US is a conservative religious country compared to Israel.
It's why you get "cultural jews" in America who don't believe in god but follow a lot of the customs. In America Jews are about twice as likely to be atheist than the rest of the population. In Israel it's up to 3 times more likely than general Americans.. likely as a result of zionism and a bit more of the socialist/kibbutz aspects of their culture.

On the Palestinian side PNI is also secular although you're going to be in more trouble as an atheist in Palestine, especially now it's been radicalised over the last 10-15 years with Hamas (which Israel often gets the blame for helping foster in the early days as a counter-weight to Arafat)

I feel the same - Its just been put off until the next time or the time after that.

At least when there is a 'crisis' like this there is some action by the observing nations that in the end will make the decision about what happens in Israel.
