Where I'm from in the mid west, I see a lot of different things. I think a lot of it depends on the house/home/apartment or whatever you're going into. If you come to my place with all wood floors and a bunch of party animals...you don't have to take your dam shoes off (unless it's a slushy nasty mess outside and you're gonna make a mess. If you walk into a nice house with carpet all over that's another story. I think here in the USA it's not a black and white thing like some of you guys have it wherever you are. It's more of a common sense thing.
I naturally take my shoes off at the door anywhere I go, unless it's some sort of party where nobody else is. |

I am not really a foot person so I do not want to put my feet into slippers others have had on. It disgusts me actually. It is like wearing someone else's underwear. But when in Rome.... |
always have slippers in my house. never walk around in sneakers/shoes.
|
With all the pornstars coming through my house the least of my 'dirty' problem is wearing my shoes indoors.
|
i used to.
Asian girlfriend corrected the habit :) |

I also personally think that the wearing of loose shoes to go about one's day that one cannot move around quickly in and turn corners on a dime like slippers, flip flops or untied sneakers is a sign or at least a symptom of laziness and sloth. Have you ever seen the footgear popularly worn by ghetto people and welfare recipients in the grocery store? They're almost always falling off their feet as they shuffle around at a snail's pace. Maybe this is just my personal hangup but I like to tie my sneakers or shoelaces tight so I can move with a quickness. |

back in Germany people dont care that much but since i moved to CZ i have fully adapted, even when i am alone at my place. shoes go off at the door. |
I used to wear shoes in the house until I moved to Asia and learned better. Now it makes no sense to wear shoes in the house. They come off at the door.
If you must wear something inside, wear slippers. |

Every time you go outside maybe to do an errand you have to put on your shoes again. Or when you visit someone, maybe a birthday, everyone has to put their shoes off? It seems really weird to me. I put my damn shoes on the coffee table too. If you don't like it I will grind my shoes on your new couch. Fuck your couch! |

living in canada i've never known anyone to wear shoes in the house in a regular basis. sure, the average day you might not step into something nasty but even the little stones that get caught in the tread in your shoes would quickly scratch up your hardwood or dirty your carpet but hey, to each their own. |
inside my own home I go barefoot
inside someone else's home, I would not put them through that. I leave my shoes on unless invited to remove them... then its socks. |
Houseshoes ... aka Slippers for inside. :thumbsup
shoes/boots for outside. |
I personally consider people taking off shoes very primitive. Actually telling me that they are coming from rural parts of country where obviously they have mud and horse shit all over.( I am from eastern europe, not US). Also, I never thought about putting legs on ,my table. Of course,if it is snow outside I will take them off, but when I see someone coming and started taking them off, I beg them not to do so. it is disgusting for me to watch someone's else feet and who knows are they sweaty. Usually, I am avoiding to call people who are even thinking about something like that. Last week I was at my GF's home and some kids (teenagers) form her younger sister were there, and I saw they all took their fucking shoes off. At first, I've thought some fetish thing is going on ( I guess it is professional deformation) but then, I couldn't eat when watching them and all those shoes. Disgusting.
No one here with high heels fetish? I mean, girl come to your place in perfect sexy shoes, and you give them slippers? I even ask to put them while we are in bed......many sick people here, really :) |
moron a house is just a tool, not some sort of delicate item.
What you gonna display your house or whatever..... Keep putting shoos on and off all day like i have nothing betters to do. Ofcourse you keep your boots on if your inside, what if something happens..... |
We dont have carpets so my shoes come off in my bedroom and stay there.
|
American here...
I always take my shoes off when I go inside my home or the home of someone else. I keep a nice pair of slippers by the front door and put those on when I get home. Why would I want to wear the same smelly shoes I wore all day at the office for a few more hours once I am home? |
No. San Fran streets are full of homeless people's piss, shit, heroin needles and crack. So I take my shoes off as soon as I walk in the door.

I wear slippers in the house, like right now.. with socks because it's winter time. If I'm going out and have put my shoes on already and then need to quickly get something I forgot from another room then I don't sweat walking in the house, but try to avoid.

Shoes? Slippers? Socks?

I wash my shoes if i've ever walked in cr&p.... I do wear my shoes in my home, but yet to put my feet on the table & most certainly wipe my feet on the mat when walking in my home. I wouldn't lick my shoes, but they certainly are clean enough to walk into my home :2 cents: |

Being barefoot inside is far worse than wearing shoes. Skin oils stick into the carpet and attract dust, fleas, and mites. Dirt and germs stick to sweaty skin far more than to the soles of shoes.
If you're going to take your shoes off indoors wear indoor-only slippers, flips-flops, or whatever. That's the cleanest. Otherwise it's more hygenic to wipe your feet when coming in and keeping your shoes ON! |
I'm not a big fan of toggling from a shoes-on state to a shoes-off state. If I'm barefoot indoors and need to take the trash out, then I'll walk through the snow barefoot. If I have to unlock the door and turn the knob, I'm already sick of the entry way. The last thing I want to do is reach down and acknowledge that my feet exist.
