Some poignant thoughts to ponder...

ADG

your country sells weapons to anyone who will buy them, drug cartels included

maybe your country should lead by example, rather than trying to strip peoples rights away and using the deaths of children to justify doing so

some 'poignant' thoughts to ponder, yes?

Nobody is actually arguing that the issue with a cable news outlet doctoring a story equals nothing should be done on gun control.. are they?

We have had 5 page threads on lots of cable or news companies. Here's examples.

CBS's Dan Rather report where he had some modern copy of orders where George W. Bush missed his training. Remember that whole deal? The story BECAME about the letters on the document being from a modern device rather than a period typewriter (even though the woman said that the type of preferential treatment reported WAS accurate, it was overshadowed by the fake document story).

Then there are the times that FOX was shown to be using doctored images and videos to hype up the number of attendees at various tea party and other rallies.

Also the time(s) the Bush white house used Photoshop to add soldiers into photograph(s) (it was more than once I think? Don't remember. Lets say once where soldiers were repeated in a crowd image)

There was also the TIME magazine (I think) photographs where they were shown to be doctoring images by placing childrens toys in war torn rubble for greater effect, right?

So MSNBC is also among the ranks who doctored a story for a net effect of zero or less on the story, and negative a million on their credibility.

The horse is dead, Jim.

Wrong. They didn't "doctor" anything. They used stock footage to make it look bigger.

All these damn news channels do that all the time (even local news). It's disgusting.

But it's a GIANT step forward to actually edit video and audio to create a story. Fox wasn't creating that rally. They exaggerated it with stock footage (just like the news organizations shot at a certain angles to make the "Million Man March" look a lot bigger than it was...and just like I shoot certain angles to make Claudia Marie's tits look even bigger lol)

But MSNBC took a press conference and CREATED a controversy that didn't exist.

And when you realize that ALL the news organizations are shaping thought amongst people who don't really pay close attention...then you start to realize what's being done in our country.

All this talk on the news channels about how "Americans want our politicians to come together and move forward" (as long as "forward" is what Pres. Obama wants at any given moment).

And at the same time, those news channels are trying their best to influence events and shape people's opinions so that they can then run a poll and show favorable stats for what the President wants to do.

They did it with Bush too.

I was shocked when every news channel out there kissed Bush's ass so they could get "embedded" with the troops invading Afghanistan and Iraq!

No more critical coverage of war like it USED to be done during Vietnam.

The press is nothing more than a pack of puppy dogs to the Presidency. They are all worried about being in the "inner circle" and getting that invitation to the big Press Dinner every year.

So they toe the line of whatever the President says.

oh, sorry that I misused the term "doctored" then I guess? lol.

The way I intended it was what was obvious. They INTENTIONALLY MISLEAD THEIR AUDIENCE. lmao.

That's not in dispute, is it? Then whats the difference? You really see a difference between using "stock footage" (actually footage shot from a different rally) to lie in your story and editing what was there into a new context? FOX inserted shit that didn't happen, MSNBC removed shit that did happen. Which is worse? Neither IMHO, but I guess it could be a new argument if nobody has work to do.

Tom_PM 01-31-2013 01:48 PM

I tell you what, since I cancelled cable I guess a year ago now, the only news I see is local and whatever I want to look up online, which is almost nothing ever. My homepage is google.com.. nice and clean with no news headlines to muck it up.

Yes, as I said...Fox did what NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC and your local news channel does all the time...used stock footage they already had to make something more dramatic.

I think that's fucked up.

But MSNBC didn't do that. They EDITED footage to CREATE a story that didn't exist.

That's what I'm saying.

What Fox did is total bullshit. It was using stock footage to send a subtle message to try and convince you to agree with a point of view.

What NBC did was 10 times worse.
They CREATED a situation that simply did not happen at all in order to make people get angry at gun owners. Just like it did to GrantMercury when he saw it and posted this thread originally.

Instead of arguing with me about it...step back a second and see what I'm saying.
Both things are dead wrong for news organizations to do.

But the NBC thing is a pattern of FALSIFYING video and audio footage. Just like they did last year with the audio of the guy who shot Trayvon Martin.
They ended up having to apologize for that too.

Of course, first they were responsible for firing up the black community and almost starting riots and violence with their "cut and paste" of video and audio.

You would think that NBC would have learned their lesson from that last year. But I guess not.

This is key. This is what changed when news divisions had to start being profit centers.

There ceased to be an adversarial relationship between News & Government/Big Business.

It's all been make believe ever since.

That's part of what makes all this dem vs rep, left vs right stuff (and how hard people latch onto it) such a tragic joke. It's all a fucking show, people! Bread & Circuses all over again:disgust

I remember almost all of those things. And there are obviously plenty of others we've forgotten about or never knew about.

Fuck Martin Bashir - he's the media whore in this case that pulled this shit.

The FCC needs to suspend airtime when shit like this happens. Nothing else will make a dent in the problem.

That would be nice....if the FCC wasn't a wholly-owned subsidiary of the telecom/media industry :1orglaugh:(
