Interesting that no one is talking about Hollywood and how they use underage actors in scene's that can be categorized as porn or mature subject matter but because it's Hollywood it's ok. How 'in need of protection' teenagers/youth are deemed to be is directly related to their social location (and perceived worth to society in general). Why did the author choose to direct his focus on one chica who made a choice that doesn't seem to have physically or mentally harmed her in any way rather than at the thousands of (disproportionately low income and racialized) U.S. youth sentenced to life in prison for crimes they committed as juveniles? Nope. There is huge correlation. 21 years old is WAY more likely to be more mature than 18 years old.
Of course some 18 year olds are more mature than 21 years old, but MOST 21 year olds are more mature than 18 year olds.

So there is huge correlation, just not 100% of times. Saying that there is NO correlation is just stupid.

I wrote an article about this 12 years ago on YNOT. Got my fair share of lambasting but didn't care. There are 18 year olds not ready to be in porn... there are 35 year olds not ready.
