Thanks for the replies y'alls.

Sounds like most that responded at least take some pride in the $$$ they make on their own terms, and a few get some personal satisfaction from being good at their craft or even are a little idealistic about it. Sounds good to me.

It's posts like the ones below that made me start this thread. In the first one the dude has nothing but total contempt & hatred for the girls he shoots, and you get a sense a big dose of self-loathing too - obviously a bitter dude but I wonder how common his thoughts are in our biz:

I have moments of self doubt. I've seen things I'd hope no normal person could even imagine enjoying and see the punters pay top dollar for it. But it's sweet...very very sweet when I get to see porn tramps try to think. The twink shit porn, fake underage shit, the monster cock ravaging, the pissing, just to name a few...those depravities fade away, when porn whores try to actually engage the world beyond doing another line or utilizing their ability to do a DP as something to be proud of...

Why is it sweet you might ask? I'll tell you. As long as porn exists, instead of my tax dollars going to support your totally inept ability at life devoid of something doing with cum being on or in you, my tax dollars will go to help hopefully someone who might deserve it. As long as there's a cock to suck or a creampie scene to shoot, or some idiot sugar daddy to fleece, I take solace in knowing that maybe some poor child somewhere is getting at least a part of that check I have to cut every quarter.

Gangbang on sister. You help poor children in this country in ways you can't imagine.

Or then this one, where a guy talks about shifting over to mainstream work. Maybe it's more of a financial success thing, but in that last quote doesn't sound like he was too proud of his porn stuff either:

I've new side projects of my own coming up, I'm outsourcing instead of doing everything myself so I can scale, and I'm a partner in a new business with 2 multimillionaires.

All in a year.

The best part is that people look up to me now, instead of just me looking down on myself.

It's interesting to me - our product is ostensibly about pleasure and good times, and its core purpose is to bring "enjoyment" to people, you'd think we'd be celebrated by society at large.

Yet instead the majority think what we do is wrong, or at least distasteful, and it can get kinda tiresome to navigate all that in non-porn circles. Even though I'm totally into slinging vintage smut and think in its own tiny way it's good for society to learn about the history of sexuality & whatnot, I've gotta be careful which of my mainstream clients know I'm involved with it. Sometimes that does get kinda old.

I believe that one has to take pride in one's work to be really good at it. I purposefully got into the porn business back in 1991 with the intention of becoming a porn director. I'm still doing it twenty-two years later and am still excited by the various aspects of my job and am still learning more and getting better every day.

Anyone who is just dispassionately doing a creative job like producing content solely for the purpose of paying their bills and not because they also love photography, sexy girls, making movies and the like is never going to have the same eye that someone who is invested in the content will have.

I do strategic and tactical sales planning on an executive level for a multi-million dollar corporation -- the fact that I am dealing with adult live media is a lot more interesting than selling nuts and bolts or light bulbs -- things I did 30 years ago ...

I could adapt to more mainstream endeavours quite easily.

To me money is money and this is a fun way to make it. Working with human emotions for profit.

Making money and having very marketable skills are some my sources of pride and not the product in itself. I would probably feel the same way if I sold exotic cars or pricey antique furniture. Successfully earning money honestly, not having to look over your shoulder all the time is a great source of pride to me.

I'm proud of what my business has acheived, and how I've grown as a person and a businessman via adult and online sales. But do i go around proclaiming "I'M MISTER PEABODY, A PORNOGRAPHER!!!" as if it's the greatest thing in the world? No I do not. I like to fly under the radar, thus my little cartoon character. :)
