This just shows how fucked up and out of touch with the ideals this country was founded on that our politicians and Federal Govt. are.

We are doing the same things that I was told as a child we stood AGAINST.

They should have had a military trial and executed a long time ago.

So your a vet and you are free to feel the way you do, I'm a vet and got hazardous duty pay for 3 years, and I just posted the facts about lies the White House has put out. The assholes that followed made it about partisan politics. I didn't......

Uh oh, 5 guys who couldn't hit the broad side of the barn from 10 feet out are going to be back in Afghanistan. So scary. Better grab my tissues. :1orglaugh

Translation: I sat on a boat(or submarine) and never shot a round down range in combat while the Navy considered whatever I was doing hazardous and want to make you think I'm tough. Otherwise known as a pogue.

What is that uniform in your avatar?

So you are against them giving money to the UNCF? You wish death on people that give to them? The reason I used the acronym is that I'm not sure the board would allow the full wording.

The uniform is from my trip to China a couple months ago. Terracotta Warriors. Photoshop overlay they do for tourist.

80+% of military is support, most anyone talking about being in the military was/is a pogue. very few on the front lines and even very fewer who've seen combat.

So first you say you support the troops, then openly bash a veteran.

You have no idea what I did and you wouldn't have the balls to do what I did.

I tell most people what I did, including Rochard and he doesn't want to try it!

Rochard, remember me telling you about the dive tower?

You get that the terrorists he released were being held illegally right? Letting allof those guys go might actually be a blow for freedom.

I was on a fast attack. We patrolled where we were needed.

Travesty is a whinny fuck that can't make his mind up if he supports veterans or bashes them.

War puts troops in danger. They aren't in anymore danger with those 5 guys released then if they sent the 4 Jersey Boys over there to do a troop show. When your number is called when you are a soldier its called, not a god damn thing people can do to change that.

As far as those 5 guys go. I'm sure they have been water boarded to death enough to the point that there brains and psychi are so fucked up that they are useless. The condition that Al Queda and Taliban in nowadays is not the glory days it was in when these guys were imprisoned. These fucks aren't going to want any part of possibly going back to Cuba to spend the rest of their lives being held as combatants. All these assholes want to do is find a nice piece of mountain rock and crawl under it and raise some goats..

I wouldn't get too worried about them anyways. You can bet your ass that they will be blown up anyways by a drone strike if they are caught anywhere near that shit again.

I'm bashing an idiot - I don't care if you were a veteran or not. Supporting the troops doesn't mean being nice to a fat old guy just because he feels entitled. Regardless, if you were down and out and needed help, I'd likely send you a few bucks because you've served - even if I don't like you.

You sure love to make assumptions about other peoples' balls and brains. I'm willing to wager I'd be okay with giving it a whirl - I don't really have a side that says "hey, that might end badly, don't do it". You suggesting that I'd somehow be afraid to do what you did because you're so big, bad and tough just tells me you're trying to make up for something.

Again, they should have been tried by court martial.

I have never been for GITMO, they should have been tried immediately and the sentence carried out.

This is the first and I hope the last time anything like this has happened, because of their status as not being POW's, but being terrorist.

But again, no one is talking about the OP one bit!

Not a lot of big picture thinking going on. This is the Me society we have created I suppose.

We aren't really jeopardizing anyone. For the most part we are pulling out. Mission accomplished, we removed the Taliban from power, destroy the so called "base" of Al-Qaeda, and killed Osama.

Do we even know who the five Taliban are? We keep hearing horror stories about them but yet we seem to know nothing. Fazl, for example, was the Taliban?s former deputy defense minister. This is like arresting the Secretary of the Navy. Wasiq was a former deputy minister of intelligence who cooperated with US troops but withheld information from us. Khairkhwa, a former Taliban governor of Herat, was more of a heroin trafficker than a Taliban. This is like arresting the governor of California. One of them of them was a police officer.

All of them were active during the invasion, have been out of circulation for some time - nearly a decade, and all of them have given information to the US. It's possible that the Taliban might just kill them on sight.

I tend not to address far right fear mongering. If those allegations are true, which is pretty likely, then I'm sure someone who doesn't have an obvious agenda will report on it in due time. At the end of it all, though, I don't really care - a US soldier who's been in enemy hands for a while is now back on US soil - if the POTUS and his staff had to lie to make it happen, so be it. How they did it wasn't illegal, either, but you won't see that on a far-right blog. :)

WTF do you expect him to say when he's released from Cuba and going back to his home country to be interviewed by his people....?

I had a lovely time and thanks for the Snickers?

They are no more of a threat than any other regular soldier we would let go in a prisoner exchange. If he blows himself up, not like you can do anything about it.

You're making these guys out to be more important than they are. That public attitude is exactly doing what you describe you don't want to do...and enabling and encouraging the enemy.

You tell me... What value does the former governor of an area of Afghanistan have after being in US custody for fifteen years? After fifteen years doe he have any value? Is he worth anything? Did he ever direct military forces against the US? In the event he returns to Afghanistan, will he get the post or has it been filled by someone else for fifteen years? Or will he be branded a trader?

He's about as useful to them as my shoe would be unless he was extremely connected. He may get back into a cushy position if he was savvy enough to do so in the past, but likely not for the Taliban or any affiliated group. They don't strike me as the forgiving type.

That's why its called a prisoner exchange..

What do you expect...we get a soldier back and in turn they get some goats we captured?

It's not an exchange based on the worth and personal merits of the one soldier against the worth and merits of the 5 that were released.

This is major league ball, not little league. He's was our only POW and unfortunately the good and the bad of our conflict fall on his shoulders....thats why their was a higher price to pay with them getting 5 in return...

Doesn't have shit to do with how important this kid is....the importance is what he represented.

Lie #6: The release of the terrorists poses little to no risk to the U.S.

Just days after being released from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba family members of one of the five detainees released by the United States told NBC news that the former Taliban commander, Mullah Norullah Nori, planned to return to the fight in Afghanistan. Nori is a former Taliban Provincial Governor and is said to be responsible for the Shia Muslim genocide in Western Afghanistan prior to 9/11. The attacks he ordered against his own countrymen resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians who were slaughtered for practicing a different form of Islam than the Taliban.

simple fact, the Army found back in 2010 he deserted his post in a time of war. He was the only person to do that.
